We're only a few weeks away from the start of [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469) season two, and the show has released a new still hot on the heels of the first promo. EP Jeff Bell also gives us some hints as to the kind of storylines we will see, and from where I'm sitting, it looks like this may be a continuation of the Skye show.
From the start, Skye has really been the central character, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, I would have loved to see more of a balance, or a focus on Agent Coulson. I was hoping with the new season and the re-building of SHIELD, we might see more of Coulson himself, but from the released promo, it looks like she's still going to be the star.
The still (above) shows Skye and her new hairstyle staring down a very large gun, and the fact that the promo still chosen to advertise the show on TVLine is her alone speaks volumes about the focus of the show. The first promo video also focuses heavily on Skye, although we do see many of the others (often with her), further suggesting that she is the lynchpin of the series.
That said, Jeff Bell tells us that the show will keep going at the pace it hit toward the end of the first season, which is fantastic. Many viewers (myself included) felt that the first season started very slow, and took a little too much time to really get going.
Once we could say the word HYDRA, it's been a sprint, and we're planning to just keep sprinting.
Bell also talked a little about how things will change with the official destruction of SHIELD and Coulson's position attempting to re-build it.
Coulson will have to make some hard decisions, but unofficially, on the run and with people gunning for him.
I'm really excited to see where that storyline goes, much more than the mysteries around Skye's family or Fitz/Simmons will-they-won't-they romance. For one thing, it's really what I always wanted the show to be about - the agency - and for another, it will presumably impact the Marvel cinematic universe. Either way, it looks like season two should be more intense and action packed than the first, and that can only be a good thing!
