After the disappointing news yesterday that a planned Hawkeye cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was cut from the script, Robert Downey Jr has once again proven his greatness, and has come out swinging with full support for the underrated superhero.

Iron Man has Hawkeye's back!

Hawkeye is a much maligned character in the Marvel universe, often criticized for his supposed 'weak skills' compared to the other superheroes, and even for the color of his costume. I think, he is truly one of the most unfairly undervalued superheroes there is.

Robert Downey Jr wholeheartedly agrees.

I think Jeremy Renner is — when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he’s just a rock-star, a bada–.

Tony Stark himself calls Hawkeye a rock-star AND a bad-ass?! Step back haters or prepare to get an iron fist to the face!

Iron Man has got Hawkeye's back..oh wait?

In fact, RDJ has been a huge fan of Hawkeye for sometime- and so have his children! Back in March he mentioned this:

My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy has a lot to do with the plot

This is so cool! RDJ repeatedly bringing up Hawkeye and mentioning how important his role in Avengers: Age of Ultron is truly shows what a cool dude he is. After all, how easy would it be for him to talk about how much Iron Man or Captain America rule? Nope, he picks the underdog of the Avengers team to rally behind instead.

But this type of attitude from RDJ shouldn't come as a total surprise, we already know that once you're in RDJ's inner circle, he'll support you to the end, much like he did with friend Mark Ruffalo when he was cast as The Hulk.

But RDJ isn't only championing Hawkeye as a character, he has even loftier dreams for the sharp shooter:

The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise.

Yes! I would love a Hawkeye movie! Imagine of all the kick-ass archers we've seen in the last few years - Legolas, Katniss, Daryl Dixon and then add them all together and multiply by 100 and you'd have the awesomeness of Hawkeye.

Thank you Robert Downey Jr for putting that idea out there.

It will be interesting to see what role Hawkeye plays in Avengers: Age of Ultron and who knows, maybe Robert Downey Jrs' dreams will come true for the under appreciated hero. Don't let Hawkeye be snubbed!

Poll

Do you agree with RDJ, does Hawkeye need his own movie?
