An Entertainment Weekly interview with Andrew Lincoln has revealed what the tone will be like in Season 5 of The Walking Dead. Spoiler alert: It's definitely no family friendly romp.
Firstly Andrew Lincoln talked about the type of person that Rick has become in Season 5:
Rick is probably at the most complete place he's been ever, since the apocalypse started. He's a man who doesn't doubt himself anymore and he's accepted his brutality just as much as his humanity.
A new, darker Rick for the upcoming season?! I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited to see this! It does seems like in this new post-apocalypse world an uncompromising attitude will serve you well, so maybe Rick is just adapting necessarily.
But what about the overall tone of the show? Well Andrew Lincoln has a bit of a warning for us:
It feels like we're heading into the heart of darkness...Brutal's the word for this season...It's always been pretty intense but this season I think is very hard hitting and people should be prepared for that I think.
Wow the phrase "heading into the heart of darkness" definitely gives off very ominous and foreboding vibe.
With a strong Rick in control, Andrew Lincoln warns that this could be as good for the group as it could be bad and it appears like things are very clear cut for him:
You stand alongside Rick, you're family. You stand in opposition to him, you're a problem. This season seems to be about...Whether or not people are willing to be as uncompromising as Rick.
That certainly leaves us with a lot to think about. It'll be very interesting to see just how much the group can cope with this new, darker Rick as leader. How many end up alongside him and how many end up as victims to dark Rick? I guess we'll have to wait until October 12th to find out.
