The Shazam movie is officially in development at Warner Bros. with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson cast to play the film's villain Black Adam. There was a lot of speculation that he was going to play Shazam himself, or perhaps even both roles, but now it seems that Black Adam is in Johnson's future. With that said, who will Warner Bros cast to play the titular character? Johnson isn't the strongest of actors, but man does that guy have personality and charisma to spare. I think it would be smart for Warner Bros. and DC to find someone who can play off Johnson's limited acting range, while highlighting his on-screen charm. Here are five suggestions and recommendations.

Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum is on the rise in Hollywood after the success of 22 Jump Street and Magic Mike. While he'll be playing Gambit in the X-Men film franchise for Fox, why can't he also play Shazam for DC and Warner Bros. Ryan Reynolds had one foot in the DC universe with Green Lantern and another in Marvel's with Deadpool. I can see the same for Tatum who would almost be Dwayne Johnson's equal, in terms of size.

Jon Hamm

In 2015, Jon Hamm will be finished with Mad Men on AMC. He's played Don Draper since 2007 and has yet to make the leap from the small screen to the big. Why not find a hit with a surefire winner like Shazam? Hamm has the personality and size to play a big superhero and he also has that "boy scout" quality that Shazam is known for.

Mark Wahlberg

Why not re-team the stars of Michael Bay's Pain & Gain for a superhero movie? In fact, let's go the extra mile and hire Michael Bay to direct the damn thing! Mark Wahlberg & Dwayne Johnson in a Michael Bay superhero movie, what could go wrong?

Tom Hardy

We know he could play a bad guy, as we all watched in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (for DC and Warner Bros. I might add). Hardy has yet to really capitalize on that film, so playing the lead in another big superhero could affirm him with a wider audience. Besides, we can finally see a majority of his face and hear his actual voice in a Shazam movie, instead of being covered in a Bane mask.

Terry Crews

Dwayne Johnson is not the best actor, but he gets a lot of credit for his on-screen charisma and physicality. Why not cast another actor with the same strengthens and weakness in the new Shazam movie? I think someone like Terry Crews could benefit from playing Shazam for DC and Warners Bros. He's big and charming, so he's already Johnson's equal in that respect, so it seems like a good match to the protagonist to The Rock's antagonist.
