Shia LaBeouf, Kate Mara and Gary Oldman will star in the psychological thriller “Man Down,” with shooting commencing Oct. 30 in New Orleans.
The film follows a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America.
Man Down stars Shia LaBeouf as a man devastated by war, loss, and the collapse of everything he knows. The latest film from director Dito Montiel ('A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints') assumes a rigorously subjective point of view in order to get deep inside the troubled psyche of its hero — and to help us empathize with a form of trauma that afflicts a disturbing number of soldiers who return from conflict.
Gabriel Drummer (LaBeouf ) was a husband, a father, and a US Marine. But that was back before the end of civilization as we know it. Now Gabriel wanders a post-apocalyptic landscape with his best friend and fellow soldier Devin (Jai Courtney), struggling to survive in the face of constant danger and deprivation. Gabriel also struggles with memories: of the terrible things he experienced in Afghanistan; of his beloved wife, Natalie (Kate Mara), and how their marriage began to come apart; of his long and disjointed interview with Captain Peyton (Gary Oldman), a military psychiatrist assigned to assess Gabriel. As the memories flow over him, burgeoning rage and regret drive Gabriel to seize control of his situation using the only tools he has at his disposal.
Man Down begins as a sort of puzzle made from the shards of Gabriel's shattered mind. Over the course of this meticulously constructed film, those shards are pieced together and a complete picture emerges. It is a picture we all need to see.
Montiel (Director) and Shia LaBeouf have worked before on 2006’s “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” a story about a Montiel’s youth in Astoria, N.Y. The film also starred Robert Downey, Jr. who played the older version to LaBeouf's role.
Shia LaBeouf was next be in a string of fantastic acting roles with movies like "Lawless" which also co-starred Gary Oldman. Then Shia was in the critically acclaimed movies with Brad Pitt “Fury", a movie about the hardships of battle in a WWII American armored tank. Both movies have been, in my eyes, standout roles once again highlighting the fantastic talents of Shia LeBeoufs depths in emotional acting. I cannot wait to see what he does in "Man Down"!
Gary Oldman is an acting legend! From his amazing roles in "True Romance", "Dracula", The Batman Trilogy as Commissioner Gordon and in the cult classic "The Professional". Everything Gary Oldman touches is sure to be gold!
Oldman was seen most recently in remakes of "RoboCop" and “Dawn of Planet of the Apes”, also the outstanding movie "Lawless". Kate Mara co-stars in Netflix’s original hit show “House of Cards”.
The Solution Entertainment Group is handling international rights and will present the project to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Producers are Dawn Krantz, Stephen McEveety and Jon Burton (LEGO Movie). Dito Montiel will direct the movie from an original screenplay by Adam Simon (who also wrote SYNAPSE).
“When I read the script for the first time I knew it was something very special,” -said Krantz about Adam Simon's script.
I hope to get another interview with Adam Simon about this new Thriller! Check out my other breaking blog on Adams's other hit movie that he also wrote AND will also star in #SYNAPSE
