After rumors surfaced that one of The Vampire Diaries' holy trinity was going to quit the show, gossip has been rife about whether it will be Nina, Ian or Paul who turns their back on Mystic Falls for good.

The latest whisper on the internet grapevine is that Nina Dobrev will be the one packing her bags and waling into the sunset after season 6, and apparently Ian Somerhalder's runaway romance with Nikki Reed is to blame.

Although reports come from the less than reputable Celeb Dirty Laundry, they don't seem too far fetched to dismiss immediately...

The idea that Dobrev would bolt from [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) over her Ian Somerhalder hanging around with her good friend (or, once good friend...) Nikki Reed on set seems unlikely to me, but another reason the website stated makes total sense.

Along with reports that Reed's presence canoodling with Somerhalder on set is doing Dobrev's head in, there come more sensible reports that the 25-year-old actress wants to pursue a big screen career instead.

After the success of [Let's Be Cops](movie:885786) at the box office, I wouldn't blame Dobrev for wanting to chase a life on the silver screen. Nina's popularity was used as a huge selling point for the movie, so maybe she is finally realizing her true star power and aiming for bigger things.

She might still be most famous as Elena Gilbert, but Dobrev has also racked up time on the big screen in high profile movies such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower alongside Emma Watson and Chloe with Amanda Seyfried.

These cinematic successes are something that no other Vampire Diaries star has yet managed to equal, so maybe it's Nina who has outgrown the show despite many reports that Ian will be the one that's leaving...
