In spite of its pretty measly $35 million worldwide box office earnings (it really tears my guts out this one. Finally a good Dredd movie, and no one cared), fans are still keen on seeing a sequel to 2012's Dredd, the Karl Urban-starring movie adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics.
But what we're to expect from Dredd 2 is being kept largely under wraps. A sequel, or a prequel? Another standalone episode in the life of Judge Dredd? The comics are full of those...
Well, when asked about the possibility of getting to see the dark judges in Dredd 2 or beyond, Karl Urban revealed (with a glimmer in his eye, no less) at this year's Chicago Comic-Con that:
Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo.
The Origins story - from the comics - involves present day or older Dredd looking for something or someone from his past and discovering how things that happened in the past affected present events. Meaning that Dredd 2 doesn't necessarily have to be a prequel.
I'd watch a Dredd film about anything, if they could make it as good as the first. Or even half as good. Though personally, I'd like to see Anderson's psychic powers come in handy.
What do YOU want from Dredd 2?
