Jessica Chastain certainly has superheroes on the mind! In an interview for her upcoming movie "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby", she already spoke up about her frustration with the lack of female-fronted superhero movies, and now it seems that she not only wants to see one; she wants to star in one as well!

In an interview with the Guardian, Chastain spoke frankly about her desire to be in a superhero movie, and not just as eye candy (which goes a long way to explaining why she turned down the role of the "smart and sexy scientist" in Iron Man 3).

I would love to do a superhero movie! I would have loved to have played Black Widow. The problem is, if I do a superhero movie, I don’t want to be the girlfriend. I don’t want to be the daughter. I want to wear a fucking cool costume with a scar on my face, with fight scenes. That’s what I’d love.

Doesn't that just sum up how so many fan-girls feel in their impatience to see more female superheros? If I was going to be a comic book character, I wouldn't be shooting for the pretty girl waiting for super-boyfriend to get home, I would want to be out there having my own adventures, taking down my own bad guys, and yes, wearing a really awesome costume.

She's certainly got the chops to take on a comic-book character, so who should she be? Here are a few of my favorite possibilities, and I would love to hear yours! Answer the poll, comment, let me know who you would love to see Jessica take on. (Sadly, no scarred faces, but there's always room for a little change in an adaptation!)

Medusa
Medusa

1. Medusa

This is my number one pick, not just because the Queen is an absolutely incredible character, and bears a decent physical resemblance to Chastain, but because she's probably going to show up in the Marvel cinematic universe pretty soon. Marvel may well be introducing the Inhumans to their on-screen world as a kind of balance to the X-Men (as Fox isn't likely to give up the rights to that team any time soon), and that means a live-action Medusa. How amazing would it be to see her using that psycho-kinetic hair on the big screen?

Spider-Woman

2. Spider-Woman/Arachne/(Madame Web)

Julia Carpenter has had a few different superhero aliases over the years, and would absolutely suit Chastain. She's also a possibility because of the announcement that Sony is developing a female-fronted Spider-man movie. It looks like that will be Black Cat (and I really hope it is) but wouldn't it be great to see Julia appear somewhere within that? I'm not as keen on the idea of the new Madame Web alias coming to screens, but as Arachne? Yes please!

Poison Ivy

3. Poison Ivy

If you are trying to cast a statuesque redhead in a comic book movie and don't think of Poison Ivy, I'm not sure we can be friends any more. Ivy is a huge fan favorite, and while we may get a variation of her in the upcoming Fox tv series "Gotham", I think that it's high time she made a return to the big screen. Uma Thurman was awesome, but Chastain would make such an incredible addition to the new DC Justice League story that is being built, and I would love to see her as this glorious green villainess.

Batwoman

4. Batwoman

Another red-headed DC lady, Katherine Kane is someone who I think we should see more of on the big screen. Of course, her backstory is rapidly becoming outdated (thankfully), but as far a cool costumes go, I have always loved her black and red and Chastain would suit it perfectly. The only issue I might have with this character is that Chastain may be a little slim for the role; Kane is ex-military, and has always (in my mind, at least) been on the bulky side. (Which makes perfect sense, as she lacks superpowers, and has to use human strength along with her gadgets when fighting crime). DC would have the option to link her to the Batman story, but it's largely unnecessary, and I think it would be really interesting to see her on her own.

Jean Grey

5. Jean Grey

Ok, she's technically already been cast by Fox, and Famke Janssen has been playing her for over a decade, but I was so hoping that with the re-set of Days of Future Past, we could see new actors taking on the iconic X-Men roles. In my heart of hearts, I would still like to see most of the X-Men re-cast, and should that ever come about, Chastain would make an absolutely incredible Jean Grey. Maybe if we get some kind of a reboot down the line, Chastain could take on the role.

Of course, these aren't our only options by a long shot, but good possibilities for red-headed heroines. Chastain wouldn't need to be limited by her hair, as we've already seen her as a blonde, and it's easy enough to make her any hair color necessary for a role. I just decided to stick with the fan-casting tradition of picking characters who physically resemble the "natural" characteristics of the actress, and also try and go for those who may actually be coming to our screens at some point. (Well, maybe not a re-cast Jean Grey, but I couldn't leave her out!)

Jessica Chastain and Scarlett Johannsson

If [Black Widow](movie:1070824) is ever re-cast (not even the tiniest bit likely, but anything is possible), we know that Chastain will be jumping at the now-iconic role, but I would actually be much happier to see her bring a brand-new superheroine to the big screen.

Marvel, take note! If you are planning on bringing the Inhumans to life, I think you've got a prime Medusa candidate ready and waiting!
