By now, most Marvel fans know that there is one enormous battle on the horizon, one villain more than any other who poses a unimaginable threat - Thanos, the Mad Titan.

And at the centre of Thanos' plans are the Infinity Stones, which when combined together in the Infinity Gauntlet give its wearer unimaginable, God-like power. Thanos wants to use the Infinity Gauntlet to destroy every living thing he can, in sick tribute to the woman he is in love with, Death.

So how many of the Infinity Stones have we seen so far, how many are still to turn up, and will we see one or more in The Avengers 2 Age of Ultron?

The Tesseract, The Space Stone

The Tesseract showed up in Thor, and Captain America: The First Avengers before it was the central plot point in The Avengers, when Loki used it to open a wormhole in space and allow the Chitauri to wreck havoc in New York.

Loki was working for Thanos in that movie. And though Thor returned the Tesseract to Asgard, a Loki disguised Loki now sits on the Throne, which means that Thanos may not have too much trouble getting his hands on it.

The Aether - The Reality Stone

This Infinity Stone first appeared in [Thor: The Dark World](movie:206462), where was called The Aether and had a dust-like form. It allows its bearer power over darkness, and was at the end of that movie given to the Collector (who also has Adam Warlock in his storeroom). Will the Collector hand it over to Thanos? Could he stop the Mad Titan getting his hold of it? Only time - and maybe Avengers 2 - will tell.

The Power Stone

This one turned up in this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy. First of all, Star Lord Peter Quill tried to get his hands on it. Ronan the Accuser got his hands on it next, but the Guardians were eventually able to turn the tables and use its power to defeat him.

This stone ended up in Nova Corps, which Thanos would surely have to attack to get hold of it. Could we see this happen in [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113)?

So those are the three Infinity Stones that have appeared in the MCU so far - the ones left are the Mind Stone, the Time Stone and the Soul Stone? Will we see some of them in Avengers 2?

Was Loki's Staff in The Avengers the Time Stone, or the Mind Stone? Will the Vision be turned away from Ultron with the Soul Stone in Avengers 2? How do you think Marvel will incorporate the remaining Infinity Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
