Charlie Hunnam might be used to having a lot on his plate as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, but he isn't above biting off way more than he can chew when it comes to his own career.

The undeniably hunky British actor has recently opened up about why he dropped out of [Fifty Shades of Grey](movie:391697), and according to Hunnam, it was an unworkable schedule that forced him to back out of the iconic role. The 34-year-old actor explained;

I wouldn't have signed up in the first place if I didn't want to do it. [But] it was a really really difficult time in my life. I was going to finish 'Sons' at 11pm Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for 'Fifty,' missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning. And I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting 'Crimson Peak' in Toronto. I just had... something of a nervous breakdown.

The perils of popularity, eh?

You've got to feel bad for Hunnam though, with his contractual obligations to [Sons of Anarchy](series:201186), the star didn't really have a choice when it came to disappointing hundreds of thousands of 'Mommy porn' enthusiasts.

Hunnam still seems totally cut up about not suiting up as the sadistic Christian Grey. He told interviewers;

I really didn't want to fail on such a grand scale, and I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. I bit off more than I could chew and it was painful. I loved the character and I wanted to do it

We loved you as the character too, Hunnam! But, seeing as you're so sorry, I guess we can find it in our hearts to forgive you.
