Kill The Messenger, from Homeland and Dexter director Michael Cuesta, is based on the true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb (Jeremy Renner), a San Jose Mercury News reporter.

Webb linked the CIA to the crack-cocaine trade which funded the Nicaraguan Contra rebels who - in turn - fought their government. As a result, Webb became the target of a devastating smear campaign which cost him not only his job but also, ultimately, his life.

There's an old adage says that the truth will set your free. Unfortunately, this upcoming crime drama sends a completely different message... And as censorship increases worldwide, journalists are being attacked, kidnapped and even killed for exposing the truth. This film probably couldn't have come at a better time.

Still, if the Kill the Messenger is anywhere near as cinematically gorgeous and exhilarating as the new trailer suggests, then at least we're getting a damn fine piece of storytelling out of it all.
