Well many of you readers might already know that The Spider-man franchise has been going through a rough phase. I've been seeing an online comment world war between fans of the original trilogy and the rebooted series. Now let me get this straight I'm an aspiring film maker who wants to make it big in Hollywood , I like both of these versions of Spider-man . Both of them are actually pretty but as many critics said If a franchise is so good than there must be certainly something real bad in store for the audience in the future.I'm going to write a comparison.
Tobey Maguire's biggest jump in his acting career was when he got a jackpot chance to play Spider-man in an live-action film , and silenced the critics who wrote him off as someone who is not a super-hero material. For all those original haters out there before you start calling Tobey Maguire as Tobey Magcrier Please go and watch Spider-man 2 , not only was it the best film in the trilogy but Tobey gave one-hell of a performance that redefined the term Super-hero.The only problem I had with this version of Spider-man is that awkward moment when he generated web from his arms rather than using mechanical web shooters.
Andrew Garfield was already an established theater artist before he made his film debut and of course facing the camera is not a big deal for someone who is an excellent performer on stage plays. But just like all of you guys I found Andrew's casting as the new live action Spider-man strange and unnecessary as I was fine with Tobey Maguire being Spider-man . I thought Sony should re-consider its decision to reboot Spider-man as it was too soon . But when I saw Andrew Garfield as Spider-man I was blown away as he was so real , his body language , his acrobatics made me believe that Spider-man can exist in reality. He is so real but the key ingredient is missing , where is the super-hero ? ... Ahm Ahh I mean I saw Spider-man he was real but the heroism is definitely missing .
Tobey's portrayal of Peter Parker was almost an exact reflection of the nerd Comic Book version , His timing with the Broadway Musical Kinda Background Score was funny and that was one of the main reasons why a lot of Children loved him and still love him , His desperate expressions when Mary Jane was engaged to someone else were touching and of course Tobey being a crying specialist added perfection to tragic scenes but sometimes I felt he was pretty much doing the same in different emotional scenes that were far from being tragic.
Tobey Maguire may have edged Andrew Garfield in terms of Heroism to some extent but when it comes to playing Peter Parker I'll go with Andrew , The Peter Parker he played shows a lot of variations from The Original and the Comic Book version but I love this guy , He is not the usual nerd but he is so smart , cool and Intelligent , Even Christopher Nolan's version of Bruce Wayne was way more different than the comics but he is the best one so far .. the same goes for Andrew Garfield .
Kirsten Dunst is good looking and her chemistry with Tobey was not bad , Her kissing scene with Spider-man in the first film was epic. Her performance was good to some extent but her messed up character sketch and too much much makeup with some minor faults didn't quite go well with flow of the film.
Emma Stone was the perfect casting for Gwen Stacy is one of the major improvements in the Reboot.Andrew Garfield being her off screen boy friend was only making the film better and better with each romantic segment one step ahead of Tobey-Kristen Pairing.
Harry Osborn/Green Goblin:
James Franco is a mis-cast by all sorts and is one of the biggest mistakes in the Original Trilogy. He is a fantastic actor who is still under rated but read the word right "Miscast" , His grey shaded portrayal of Harry Osborn in Spider-man 3 is good enough to earn him a Razzie award for worst supporting actor and .. his transformation to the New Green Goblin , The Amnesia episode were messed up Baring his Performance in his Confrontation scenes with Tobey and the revelation as Spidey in Spider-man 2 ... all his other scenes were below average.
Dane DeHaan may not be as versatile as James Franco in terms of acting but he is a good actor and the best Harry Osborn and Green Goblin in a live ation film so far.For gods sake before you viewers dismiss The Amazing Spider-man 2 as a bad film , Think about this guy's performance , His Transformation from a vulnerable , desperate Harry Osborn to the the sadistic , evil , vengeance bound Green Goblin was so good that we could hardly take our eyes of him during his roaring performance.
Spider-man happens to be the first Blockbuster in Sam Raimi's career outside Evil Dead series .. His Spider-man(2002) is a honest faithful origin story for Marvel's most popular Superhero. His Spider-man 2 is one of the greatest super-hero films of all-time , for me its the best live action Spider-man film so far. He is a pretty good director ... But when he experimented his screen writing skills for Spider-man 3 ... it resulted in a lot of hate ... Even though its the highest grossing Spider-man film of all-time ... critics had mixed feelings about Spider-man 3 .... But audience responded in a better way about the film .... Spider-man 4 would have easily brought back things to normal .... But during the pre-production phase of Spider-man 4 Sam Raimi had lost confidence in himself , With the script being re-written time & time again ... He backed out of the project.
Marc Webb's vision of Spider-man is completely different from the original trilogy. I've been a big fan of him since 500 Days of Summer.Sam Raimi had projected Spider-man as an Superhero. But Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-man is more like a sci-fiction film laced with Light-hearted humor and family sentiments. Those terms like Cross-Species Genetics and decay rate algorithm exist in reality , thus a realistic approach to the film made him a better director than Sam Raimi just like Christopher Nolan did to Batman. The Amazing Spider-man 2 had a promising trailer but last minute re-shoots and re-editing of the film to promote the upcoming Venom , Sinister Six films resulted in a mess in a over-stuffed product that was dis-appointing since this film should have been what The Dark Knight for Batman to Spider-man but Sony's Obsession to generate more money with Spider-man ruined everything.
Reason for decreasing gross with every sequel:
Since Spider-man 2 hit the screens , Franchise fatigue began to affect Spider-man films. The Reboot resulted in the birth of a different Spider-man yet it came way too soon as Tobey Maguire still had some Gas left in the Tank , and with no proper conclusion to Sam Raimi's Trilogy it left the Audience frustrated . Domestic Gross is declining rapidly while Foreign gross is increasing to some extent with every sequel ... Now Sony needs to revise its marketing techniques , Stop the Domestic Gross from sliding further and increase Foreign gross as much as possible to keep Spider-man Alive.
