I just got done watching the action-horror show from the producers of “Sharknado” which is called [Z Nation](series:1327829) This new Zombie Horror TV series that will debut 13-episodes this season and will undoubtedly be endlessly compared in every single aspect to AMC's The Walking Dead. I'm sure It will also be "bagged on" for having anything to do with Sharknado or even advertising such a thing. I will not make any such comparisons or else we'll never get done with this blog (laughing). I am also not a closed minded person so I tend to give almost anything a shot......as long as it's good

UPDATE: The numbers are in! Syfy's "Z Nation" gets 1.6 MILLION viewers in debut episode!!!

Z Nation: Ep. 1 - Puppies and Kittens

The show starts off in an expected post apocalyptic earth where zombies of course are crawling all over like over populated roaches. We see our main character for the episode "Hammond" played by Harold Perrineau (who most of you will remember from his LOST days) running and blowing away zombies just to get the action off to a wrenching hectic start. Also mostly so we can get our first looks at zombie close ups and blood flowing out the way too! We also get our story scenarios beginning to unfold with the showing of a command base where we meet Army comms officer played by our favorite goofy actor DJ Qualls. Obviously he is our comic relief and lovable side character. Then we get to our other main character and the origins of why he's "humanities last hope" Garnett played by Tom Everett Scott.

First thing I'm noticing while watching this is unfortunately the most glaring disappointing aspect of the show and that is the zombie makeup, costumes and "zombie" acting. The next thing that I notice right away is that most of the acting is not that bad overall! Harold Perrineau (LOST) is by far the best part of the show. He pulls off being a hard-core soldier with not much of a heart left spectacularly and carries the rest of the cast when things get any bit "unbelievable". Or when another bad actor or bad joke lowers the bar a bit Harold Perrineau brings it back up!! Now I'm not going to spoil any more of the story for you because I would really like for everyone to at least give it a try but I will say this about the show:

The one thing I noticed about this show that I absolutely LOVE is this. The shows story telling does not pull any punches!! Some of the zombie scenarios I've always wanted from [The Walking Dead](series:201193) are here and in the first episode at that! Then we got the thing I hate the most in ANY zombie film/show and that's FAST zombies! I hate fast zombies....it's bad enough when there are hoards of zombies but then you have to run your ass off too (laughing)! It just adds a whole new level of fear factor to the overall ambiance of the show. Then we got the "CREEP FACTOR" which is crazy with the use of kids as zombies. We get a school group of young kid zombies running after you and the creepiest thing of all......A F**KING BABY ZOMBIE!!!! I cannot tell you how much I loved that part!! The other best part of this show seems to be the very quick pace the storytelling is going to unfold. What seems to drag and take months to finally get over with plot point wise in TWD has been taken care of here in just one episode alone!

I really do hope everyone gives this show a shot when it airs and keep an open mind about it. The story telling and some of the acting I think will surprise a lot of people. The CREEP FACTOR is a zombie blood loving fanatics dream. If the show gets a strong following the rest of the production value will naturally go up. That will undoubtably mean better ZOMBIES!!!

Other stars in the action-horror show from The Asylum, the production company behind ”Sharknado,” include Michael Welch (“Twilight”) and Kellita Smith (“The Bernie Mac Show”).

Z Nation” takes place three years after a virus has turned the country into a zombie wasteland, and follows a team tasked with transporting the only known human to have resisted the virus to a lab in hopes of creating a vaccine. Although the antibodies he carries are the world's last hope for survival, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all.

Perrineau will play Hammond, the leader of the group headed west; Scott portrays Garnett, Hammond's second-in-command; and Qualls plays the role of Citizen Z, a computer hacker who joins the team and helps them navigate the zombie-infested terrain. Welch and Smith are Mack and Addy, respectively, two disparate wanderers drawn to the team — and to each other — by a shared goal: survival.
