In his most recent statements Robert Downey Jr told fans that nothing was currently happening with Iron Man 4. Naturally, this was worrying to the many Marvel fans that want to see him reprise the role for a fourth time - seemingly going back on his Comic Con statement of: "Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?"

He didn't say that he wouldn't do it, though, simply that:

There isn’t one in the pipe... there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr is due to appear in two more Avengers movies, however, and, at this stage, there is no reason why there should be an Iron Man 4 in the pipeline.

But if we were to see an Iron Man 4, what story-line do you think Marvel should follow? Let's run through some of the most popular:

Iron Man 4: Marvel Civil War

Given that any Iron Man movie would most likely come after *both* Avengers movies, and therefore the battle with Thanos would probably be decided, there is no reason why the fourth Iron Man movie couldn't feature the Marvel Civil War, where the entire Marvel Universe is turned against itself Iron Man and Captain America end up leading the two sides of the Superhero universe in an epic battle.

There were even arguably some slight hints at the Civil War in the [Ant-Man](movie:9048) trailer released at Comic-Con, where Hank Pym (a key player in the Civil War, believing in Superhero Registration) expresses his opinions on Superheroes:

[If you're not a Superhero] you're not an egomaniac and you're not an undisciplined moron!

Needless to say, superheroes turning against each other in the Civil War does not end well, and its tragic outcome could pave the way for Iron Man stepping down from the Marvel Universe.

Iron Man 4: Demon In a Bottle

Alternatively, Iron Man 4 could tackle this iconic Iron Man storyline. When Iron Man's Suit malfunctions, killing an important foreign ambassador, he begins drinking harder than normal and steps down as leader of the Avengers.

Tony Stark succumbs to the demon in the bottle

Soon, he realizes that his suit did not malfunction but was sabotaged by Hammer. He battles Hammer and his cohorts, and wins, but this sends him into a spiral of rage and drinking which may be Tony Stark's lowest point.

It is a dark but captivating story-line, and like the Civil War, could be the perfect note on which to end Iron Man's story.

No Iron Man 4: Black Panther to Lead The Avengers

Tony Stark is a natural leader, a billionaire scientist superhero who can not only fight alongside the other Avengers, he can also provide them with the base in which to train and represent them to S.H.I.E.L.D.

[Black Panther](movie:9047), however, or King T'Challa of Wakanda is also a natural leader, a multi billionaire scientist superhero who leads a highly technologically advanced African nation and provided Captain America with his iconic shield.

If Robert Downey Jr won't do a fourth Iron Man movie, maybe there might just be a ready made replacement waiting in the wings.

But what do you think? What plot line would you most like for [Iron Man 4](movie:886190), The Civil War, Demon in a Bottle, or would you rather see Black Panther take charge of the Avengers?

Or do you have another idea completely?
