Way back in 2004, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were merely costarring together in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. By 2005, the movie had come out, it was a hit and Pitt broke the hearts of millions by divorcing Jennifer Aniston. But from their broken relationship, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, came Brangelina. Now, 6 children, one marriage, and 5 years after their last movie together, Brangelina is filming their first movie together in nearly a decade, the new romantic drama, By the Sea.
The film has Pitt and Jolie cast as the starring characters, but Jolie is also wrote the screenplay, is directing the film, and will share the co-producing credit with Pitt. The pair will play a married couple, Vanessa and Roland, who are traveling the country together in the 1970s as they face the deterioration of their marriage.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jolie discussed why she chose to set the film in the 1970's:
“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey.”
The movie has been shooting since Sept. 8 in Malta, and will continue until mid-Nov. [By the Sea](movie:2115705) will be released by Universal Pictures, but there has yet to be an announced date.
