Like its predecessors, the latest in this saga is a brutal and demanding third-person action-RPG set in a world full of monstrous, disturbing things that are trying their hardest to end your life as quickly as possible.
Using whatever weapons and armour you can scavenge, buy or forge, the challenge is to inch your way through this damned and deadly place, now and then coming across gigantic bosses that take especial valour and tenacity to kill. The eventual aim is to make it out alive, but there are about 50-60 hours of creative cruelty between you and that goal.
The Witcher 3 is the last part of the legend of Geralt of Nivia
"A mature, non-linear story drawn from player decisions, full of unexpected events and believable, memorable characters, with their own motivations and ambitions."
The world is in chaos. The air is thick with tension and the smoke of burnt villages. The fearsome Empire of Nilfgaard has struck again, ravaging the hapless Northern Kingdoms. The once-mighty who tried to use Geralt for their own gain are now gone.
In these uncertain times, no one can say what fortune holds in store, who will bring peace to the world and who will cause it only misery. But a force darker and deadlier emerges. The petty men and women commanding tin-plated armies fail to understand that their conflict is child’s play compared to the Wild Hunt, the otherworldly threat which now looms.
These ghastly spectral riders have for ages plagued humankind, bringing misery to the world. Yet this time the Wild Hunt seeks one person in particular: the one individual Destiny itself bestowed upon Geralt, the one soul Geralt considers kin.
The climactic third game in the fantasy RPG series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a unique combination of a non-linear story and an open world -- a character-driven, non-linear story experience focused on player choice, tactical combat and a rich, living environment. This world is populated with intelligent inhabitants and animated by new mechanics that make it a dynamic, living, breathing place.
As players travel the world, witnessing many a sunrise or sunset, enduring torrential rains or sweltering heat, they see predators hunting their prey, villages defending themselves against monsters, lovers meeting by moonlight. The new in-game economy system varies the price of goods based on surrounding conditions or their place of origin, encouraging players to seek out through hunting and collecting items that are in demand. With a re-envisioned approach to the narrative, the game will be accessible to both newcomers and old time fans, and a tutorial eases players into the game.
Combat has been redesigned in order to combine traditional RPG elements with the speed and precision of a dedicated fighting game. All of these gameplay features are integrated into a robust RPG system at the heart of the game.
The Witcher series if I remember correctly was a very straight forward ‘GAMING’ experience, it was gritty horror mixed with suspense and dirty agonising battles through a world with limited cinematic respite and for all these reasons it was a great gamers game.
The Wild Hunt has continued much in this vein much to the delight of myself and other gaming experts I have spoken with, it is definite proof that sometimes sticking to your guns is the best thing and by not being swept into the cinematic fashion wave they have been able to concentrate on actual game dynamics and gameplay resulting in yet another title success.
Do you agree with this concept or are you more for the blockbuster action sequences so many newer titles employ?

The new edition difference:
The Witcher 3 will feature the new REDengine 3 game engine, developed by CD Projekt RED and designed specifically for nonlinear role-playing video games set in vast open worldenvironments. It is supposed to help eliminate many of the game development trade-offs previous developers faced, allowing The Witcher 3 developers to create "an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story."
As in the prior two Witcher games, players are presented with a complex story featuring multiple choices bearing associated consequences. But REDengine allows for a complex story line without sacrificing the design of the virtual world. Consequently, The Witcher 3 features no loading screens, providing players a vast visual environment that allows players to freely explore and roam.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an unprecedented combination of story-driven RPG and vast, living, open world. CD Projekt RED talks about how the studio achieves this union of different RPG approaches.“The Witcher 3 is full of impactful decisions, and gamers will choose between storylines that exclude one another in a single playthrough, ensuring extensive replay value.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt crowns the trilogy with the main narrative, revolving around Geralt’s search for his loved ones and his conflict with the Wild Hunt. As players travel through the game, they visit lands with their own unique atmosphere, communities and memorable characters.
CD Projekt RED didn’t create an open world with a singular theme, but concentrated on delivering diversified and engaging environments, 30 times larger than those in The Witcher 2.” said Adam Badowski, head of CD projekt RED sudio. This setting changes depending on gamers’ actions not only when completing Geralt’s personal storyline, but also because of his involvement in major local plotlines in each land visited and many other carefully-designed side quests.
All threads of this player-crafted tale interact with each other and the world, creating an even more nonlinear experience than ever before. The main narrative accounts for around 50 hours of gameplay in one playthrough, and the additional stories add another 50 hours of role playing, giving around 100 hours of total gaming time.
The Witcher 3 will be released on PS4, XboxOne and PC
“There’s a lot of magic between the third Witcher and Xbox One - we felt it since receiving development kits some time ago. A lot of effort on our side was made to usher the potential of the next generation with a new kind of RPG experience - for the first time we could open the world to the extent we wanted and tell the story with the flair it deserves. I’m confident that we’ll deliver something groundbreaking and I hope, based on what we’ve released today, you’re seeing this as well.”, Adam Badowski.
