With [The Walking Dead](series:201193) premiering in just over three weeks, Fox International Channels has released the official synopsis for Season 5 and it is good!
Have a read of the official synopsis as I've broken it down piece by piece and let me know what you think in the comments:
Season Four of The Walking Dead ended with Rick and the group outgunned, outnumbered, and trapped in a train car awaiting a grim fate.
The synopsis begins by setting the scene and telling us what we already know. Rick and the gang are stuck in Terminus and things aren't good.
Season Five picks up shortly thereafter. What follows is a story that weaves the true motives of the people of Terminus with the hopeful prospect of a cure in Washington, D.C., the fate of the group’s lost comrades, as well as new locales, new conflicts, and new obstacles in keeping the group together and staying alive.
So for the first time in the show's history there isn't going to be a time jump from season to season! It goes on to say that Terminus will be exposed for what they are- our guess is cannibals.
Interesting that they mention that the motives of Terminus will be weaved with the prospect of a cure, possibly indicating that the Termites don't kill the group because of Eugene?
The talk about the lost comrades is obviously a tip to Carol, Tyreese and Judith being reunited with the rest of the group, whereas the new locales, conflicts and obstacles are probably talking about the stint in the forest and city, but also- the possibility of the Alexandria Safe-Zone?
Stories will break apart and intersect. The characters will find love and hate. Peace and conflict. Contentment and terror. And, in the quest to find a permanent, safe place to call home, one question will haunt them…
After all they’ve seen, all they’ve done, all they’ve sacrificed, lost, and held on to no matter what the cost...
Who do they become?
It finishes with some big chat about the gang and what they'll face over the course of the season. Andrew Lincoln has already commented about the changes that Rick undergoes this season, which will make some of the group question how far they're willing to go to stay with him. I wouldn't be surprised if some of this is related to the new dark Rick and the direction he leads the group in.
Finishing on the rather ominous and existential question "who will they become?" it seems like Season 5 will follow the series focus that the show was never about the walking dead but about what the living become.
Season 5 gets underway on Sunday, October 12th on AMC.
Do you think they'll find a cure in Season 5?
