With the awesome, long-awaited announcement that FOX will finally be bringing a "Deadpool" movie to the silver screen in 2016 and expanding it's cinematic X-universe, a "Mystique" solo film starring Jennifer Lawrence now seems inevitable.
This belief is bolstered by what seemed like a promise by the cinematic X-power players back in May that they would be expanding their mutant movie universe significantly, encouraged by the then-hoped-for strength of [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942).
That belief turned out to be well-founded. X-Men: Days of Future Past has been hailed as one of the best comic-book flicks ever and is only $500,000 away from setting a new franchise record.
Right before the film was released in May, there was confirmation that there will be a "Gambit" solo spin-off film starring Channing Tatum.
After the film's healthy box-office and huge buzz it seemed there would be quite a few solo films starring Marvel's Mutants in the next few years.
"Deadpool wasn't given his due in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'. So we'd like to give him that", said "X-Men" film producer Lauren Shuler-Donner to me back in May. "I think there's an interesting movie to be made about Remy LeBeau, who I'm sure you know as Gambit and there are a few other possibilities."
With both Wade Wilson and Remy Lebeau's solo films now confirmed, the most lucrative X-Men cinematic spinoff is now almost a certainty.
Having Jennifer Lawrence, arguably the most bankable actress on the planet right now, following-up what is basically a kick-ass, costarring role in X-Men: Days of Future Past with a solo film to strut her stuff is basically a license to print money.
Lawrence is going to be done with the The Hunger Games series by next year and a "Mystique" film could give her another franchise - and FOX a goldmine.
"Well, I would like it", Shuler-Donner said to me back in May. "It's definitely a possibility."
"It's definitely possible", says X-Men: Days of Future Past producer Hutch Parker to me back in May. "'Days of Future Past' invites us to put the spotlight on and explore a lot of great characters - and I would definitely put Mystique on that list."
Parker said that the "Big Three" tent poles of the X-Franchise from the beginning - Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto has, with Lawrence's performance in "Days of Future Past", been expanded to a Big Four.
"I think everyone's a possibility, but I have to admit I do love writing for Jennifer Lawrence", 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' writer Simon Kinberg told me. "I would write every scene in every movie she does if I could."
"She's a very funny and passionate actress with a ton of class", Kinberg concluded. "She's very professional and has a lot of passion for the Mystique character. So we'll see."
Toss in the fact that there are no less than SIX Untitled FOX movies already scheduled for March, 2017; June 2017; November 2017; December 2017;
November 2018 and December 2018 and it's HIGHLY unlikely that a "Mystique" film won't fill ONE of those slots.
Especially since Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen will have dominated the Thanksgiving period for three years by the end of 2015.
So why not continue the tradition with a "Mystique" film or franchise?
