When the truth was finally revealed about Severus Snape's allegiance, past, and intentions, hearts shattered all around the world. After I read what the Pensieve showed from Snape's memories I had to close the book for a few minutes. In the past, I had been so engrossed in the story that I just kept powering through until my eyes couldn't take it anymore. But this chapter made me stop. It was not only the perfect, most heartbreaking end, but it really rounded out the character of Severus Snape.
As a child of the Harry Potter generation, there are endless memories that I have from the series that stir up any number of emotions. But the one that really gets me is whenever I think about Snape and Lily.
They're one of those pairings that is hard to ship, mainly because without James marrying Lily, we would have no Harry. But at the same time, it gave every reader the chance to use their imagination to think of everything that could have been. The Snily story is one that will stand out in my mind, even when I'm a wrinkly, old cat lady.
Lucky for the fans of Snily, artists far and wide have given the story of Snape and Lily new life. Whether they break your heart or give them the chance they never had, they're all beautiful. Are you ready for some serious feels?
Severus and Lily grew up together...
While at Hogwarts, their friendship transcended all of the stereotypes of Slytherins and Gryffindors.
They were the very best of friends. And eventually, Severus fell deeply in love with Lily.
He swore to himself that he would always be there for her.
Sadly, over the years, Severus' need to appear tough in front of his bullies came at Lily's expense. He then lost her as a friend.
Time passed and their relationship was never fully mended. But Severus never kept Lily far from his heart.
For a while he watched from the sidelines of her life, until she was lost forever.
After Lily died, Severus knew that protecting Harry would be the best way to honor her, and maybe earn her forgiveness.
In the end, he knew that Harry, the combination of all that he loved and hated in the world, was worth sacrificing himself for.
For how long will the story of Snape and Lily torment me?
I know, I know. Just let it all out.
