Unfortunately, I was a few days late to this episode, but I had heard that it was an especially good one, so I was pretty excited. Then they went and started the episode with a P.O.V. shot. From an iPhone. No one gets excited about that. Hey, that's only a few moments, it will get better, right?
If the tiny person being left to look after the woman with dementia who won't stop bitching, moaning and crying is your idea of a good time, then yeah, it got better. I realize Eph is never going to win Father of the Year, but leaving Zack alone with Nora's mom just wasn't the best idea anyone has ever had. Poor Zack ventures out for cigarettes so the old woman will stop crying; good thing the city is in looting mode because he certainly isn't old enough to purchase them himself.
Thank goodness Gus is back and I love that he's just strolling through the city in his bright orange D.O.C. jumpsuit. Also, funny or offensive that even in death, Mexicans love their football? Poor Gus survives being locked up with his friend and escaping the police transport van only to find his beloved mother at the bottom of a closet. At least he was able to take his aggression out on the landlord that he hates. Loved seeing that head roll down the stairs with the gross milky blood flying everywhere.
Seeing our mighty foursome travel down into the subway tunnels was pretty awesome and definitely seemed full of promise. Lots of vampire fighting action to come! We've only been waiting ELEVEN episodes for it. Hey, Eph and Nora, get off of those high horses or we're going to have a repeat of the whole 'not being able to kill Jim' thing. Consider me officially out of patience with the white dude (Eph) acting morally and intellectually superior to dude with an accent (Fet).
I loved the noises that the nest of vampires were making, but watching everyone walk over these resting vampires just wasn't as nail biting as I had hoped for. That being said, Eph pulling a Descent cave crawling moment with his machete was fantastic. Ooh and that moment where it looked like we were about to lose Fet WAS awesomely suspenseful.
It felt cheap and obvious to use Kelly against Eph only to have him confront The Master in such a spectacularly lame and anticlimactic "fight". Good thing Fet was there with one of his awesome UV bombs to save Eph's pathetic, over-educated and under-skilled ass.
Setrakian's epic emotional meltdown was a long time coming and worth every second. Only he would complain that the UV bomb chased The Master away, put Eph in his place and decimate The Master's coffin all in the same breath. Well done, sir. You pulled off The Red Wedding and I know that you are more than capable of taking out The Master. Here's to hoping that something like that happens in these last two episodes. Please. And for the love of Eichorst, can we please see the return of the vampire hunters? I really liked those guys. Well, for the two minutes that I've been allowed to see them this entire season.
