Screw the Northern Lights and an island full of real Elks, Edmonton could be about to receive it's best tourist attraction yet. A life-sized statue of Wolverine!
The most famous Canadian comic book character ever might be about to die next month, but he could be literally placed on a pedestal posthumously after a local politician endorsed fans' pleas to immortalize the comic book hero.
Councillor Knack stood behind a fan created petition to honor the beloved Marvel character on CTV when he told interviewers:
The first reaction is, this is kind of funny. But then you realize they’re taking this very seriously…I think it’s a great idea, assuming we go about it the right approach, can’t be taxpayer dollars to fund a statue of Wolverine
The Change.org petition launched by Jesse Seitz has gained almost 3,000 signatures so far after he/she called upon local governors to recognize Wolverine as a source of national pride. The petition reads;
Not many popular or exciting fictional characters are born Canadian but superhero and adventurer Wolverine isn't just Canadian, he's an Albertan too. I think it would make a lot of people really proud to live in Edmonton and raise morale to erect a life size statue of this character in City Hall, or even perhaps Churchill Square or the Alberta Legislature Grounds. It would also become an interesting tourist attraction for comic book fans visiting our city.
If Detroit can have Robocop, it only seems fair!
