In the same week that I reported on the possibility of seeing some of the original X-Men cast for the upcoming Apocalypse film, Simon Kinberg has also spoken up on some other characters who may make an appearance in the movie. He mentions a few possibilities, but the most exciting one for me, hands down, is Psylocke!

She’s a fan favourite, and also a favourite of mine. We have a small part that she plays in ‘Last Stand’, and we talked about including her in ‘DOFP’ quite seriously actually. There was a version of the script she was in and we even auditioned some actors in Montreal. But we didn’t feel there was enough of a part she would play in a movie that was already full of many, many mutants. She has a cool power. I know Bryan thinks she’s a neat character so there’s certainly a chance she’ll be in an ‘X-Men’ movie some day. Hopefully there’ll be a lot of ‘X-Men’ movies and there’s lot of mutants we’re yet to fully explore onscreen, even if they’ve had cameos before. Now we’re making more films there’s a chance to dig deeper.

When Psylocke appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand, few people realize it, because (to be perfectly honest) it was Psylocke in purple hair only. She looked the part (sort of) but the actual character fell pretty far from the mark, and was never outright named. The biggest issue for me was that she was missing her psi-blades. Seriously, Psylocke sans "psy" just doesn't cut it for me. Instead, the movie gave her a Shadowcat-style ability which she technically does possess, but it's not what she is known for by a long shot.

I'm all for seeing some of her other abilities come into play, like the ability to throw a focused bolt of psychic energy like a weapon (because how cool is that?), but she is a telepath, and her blades are one of the things that make her a favorite of mine. Why would any writer take a superhero who essentially possess mind-controlled (and created) light sabers, and think "nah, lets leave that out"?

This time around, I would love to see this incredible power used to full effect, maybe even alongside Blink - just think how amazing the visuals would be for Psylocke to leap through a portal with her weapons glowing...

There is also an easy in for Psylocke to appear in the story of [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267), as long as the original horsemen are used. Earlier this week, I wrote about the possible teams we could see backing up Apocalypse, and why I feel that the most likely choice involves Warren Worthington.

If that comes to fruition, it only makes sense to introduce Psylocke, as she is the absolute love-interest for Warren. She is the Rogue to his Gambit (another pairing I would like to see beginning in the latest installment of the franchise), and I know that I am not the only fan who wants to see these two on screen.

Of course, we are now dealing with such a huge cast, and Kinberg also dropped hints about Cable, Scarlett Witch, the cast of First Class and the original cast, so it seems like we could see pretty much anyone in the new movie.

While I fervently hope to see my second-favorite female X-Men hero gracing the big screen (and recognizably so, this time), I do occasionally worry that there are just too many characters being crammed in at once. I would rather wait to see some of my favorites, rather than have them skimmed over.

What do you think? Do you want to see Betsy Braddock in X-Men: Apocalypse?
