Denzel takes the box office crown with this mid-season action-drama film. In at #1 is "The Equalizer" bringing a solid 35 million and word-of-mouth is good on this film. This one fell right about expectations as well. Holding ground at #2 is "The Maze Runner" with an extra 17.5 mil as it tries to reach 100 mil cume but will fall short of that finish line. New at #3 is "The Boxtrolls" with 17.3 mil which is just shy of expectations but I see potential on this film for a better than average run. Drop to #4 is "This is Where I Leave You" earning another 7 mil and this is where we leave it. Rounding off the top 5 is "Dolphin Tale 2" with an extra 4.8 mil as it continues to swim a bit longer but should be the last time we see it on the top 5.
New movies next week:
Three new wide releases next week, one would think it was the start of Summer again! Coming up first with about 3000 screens is "Annabellle" which is a spin-off film, this is rare. Horror films like this with a reference could do very well. Look for it to hit mid to potentially high 20's. Next is "Gone Girl" also about 3000 screens and directed by David Fincher. This mystery-thriller should pop up around mid teens. Last but not least is "Left Behind" starring Nicholas Cage who's track record has been less than stellar lately. They peg this around mid teens but I am thinking much less on this one.
