Over the years, Iron Man has created a veritable smörgåsbord of armored exoskeletons, from the Iron Man Mk1 all the way the Space Armor Mk III. But I think many of us can agree, some of the standout pieces of Stark Industries tech is surely his series of suits designed to take on the Incredible Hulk.
Unfortunately, we've yet to see the Hulkbuster realized on the big screen. Yes, we did kind of see a version of it in Iron Man 3 (for about all of 12 seconds), but that certainly wasn't enough to sate the desires of Iron Man fans. Luckily, some intrepid video creators have stopped waiting for Marvel and have instead designed to make test footage for their own Hulkbuster armor. It's only a short video, but I'm sure you can agree, it's rather impressive:
Speculation is rife that [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) will include, and indeed open, with a scene in which Tony Stark must battle a presumably out of control Hulk. Surely, his suit of choice in this situation will be none other than the Hulkbuster?
To see what that might look like, and purely to remind ourselves of its massive proportions, let's take a look at previous iterations of the Hulkbuster armor.
Iron Man 3 - Enter The Igor
As mentioned above, Iron Man 3 featured a short scene in which the Mark 38 Heavy Lifting Suit "Igor" was featured. Although ultimately not the Hulkbuster, it could perhaps act as a prototype or basis for Stark's final design. Check out that scene again below:
The Avengers: Age of Ultron Concept Art
ABC's Marvel Studios: Assembling A Universe documentary also featured a quick glimpse at a piece of concept art which showed the Hulk and Tony Stark's Hulkbuster armor involved in a rather intense game of mercy.
First Appearence - Issue 304
Tony Stark first tried out this armor, which at the time was a modular add-on, in Issue 304 of Iron Man. In this tome, he needed to add something to this traditional armor in order to allow himself to go toe-to-toe with Bruce Banner. Check out his result below:
The Hulkbuster Mk II
Following its appearance in Issue 304, Stark broke out the suit once again to smack the Hulk around in the World War Hulk event. This time the appearance had changed rather drastically, from a relatively proportionate super-suit to a more bulky, exaggerated exoskeleton.
Hulk vs Iron Man
The armor got a further makeover in the recently released Original Sin #3.1: Hulk Vs. Iron Man and saw it return to a sleeker, more maneuverable suit which was armed to the teeth with all kinds of advanced weaponry. However, as it turns out, even this suit wasn't enough to contain the Hulk.
Which is your favorite Hulkbuster armor?
