Always a fan-favorite since she was created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada in the 1990s, the uniqueness and cool factor of the character has had appeal to Hollywood executives from the beginning.
Both a TV-movie and TV-series never seemed to truly capture the character's essence. As a result, neither were terrible. However, neither version really resonated with viewers either.
However, that seems to be changing quickly. First, co-creator Jimmy Palmiotti co-wrote the screenplay with Craig Weeden.
But what really has generated buzz for the upcoming "Painkiller Jane" film is that it is going to be directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska.
The "Twisted Twins", as they are affectionately called, seem to be the perfect pair to change that and really translate Jane Vasko to the big screen.
Why? For starters, they can barely contain their excitement when they talk about the project.
Jen Soska says one of the things that excites her about the film is the screenplay by Palmiotti and Weeden.
"I don't want to spoil anything about the script, but I will (say) that it's so unapologetically kick-ass", Jen Soska told me. "It's violent, funny as hell, sexy, smart, sentimental... I just love it! It's so well written! The dialogue is incredible! The whole thing is so quotable! I really wish I was watching it right now!"
"Painkiller Jane" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
