October is officially upon us! Pumpkin flavored snacks are everywhere, the leaves are changing, the Jack-o-lanterns and Halloween decorations are filling our stores and streets. It's truly a magical time. That brings us to the most exciting thing about the Halloween season...horror movies, of course! The stores are filling the shelves with the best the genre has to offer, TV networks will begin airing their marathons and everyone is pulling their favorites from their collections in anticipation.

So, in tribute to this wonderful time of year - I have decided to make this list. There are countless films that are great for Halloween viewing but all the movies on this list are Halloween themed or have Halloween as an important part of the film. They are in no particular order but are all definitely amazing.

These films can be enjoyed any day but would make the PERFECT all-day-long Halloween marathon!

And so we begin with...

1. Halloween (1978)

The birth of a legend
The birth of a legend

I figured we would start with the obvious one and get it out of the way. Halloween is a perfect movie to watch during Halloween but originally was titled 'The Babysitter Murders' and had nothing to do with the season at all. I think we can all be glad that they made that change, and now Michael Myers is still slashing his way into our hearts to this very day.

2. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982)

Silver Shamrock!!
Silver Shamrock!!

It's not my intention to put sequels on this list but H3 is different enough from the other films in the franchise to warrant a spot. Hated by some and loved by many others, it is still a solid standalone film that is actually pretty demented. Don't deny that you love the Silver Shamrock song either.

3. Night of the Demons (1988)

Your invited!
Your invited!

A huge cult classic and one of my favorites on here. A Halloween party at an abandoned funeral home slash murder house...what could go wrong, right?! How about a seance that leads to the possession of all your classmates? That sounds like it took a wrong turn, huh? This movie is loads of fun and has some great practical effects.

4. Trick 'r Treat (2007)

Isn't Sam so cute!
Isn't Sam so cute!

This is simply an amazing anthology film. This direct-to-video release has become a massive cult film and launched its mascot, Sam, into a full blown horror icon. No Halloween is complete without a viewing of this brilliant film. A sequel is even in development, so you can all rejoice!

5. House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

introducing...fish boy!
introducing...fish boy!

Rob Zombie's intro into film making is this demented tale of what happens the day before and on Halloween to some poor slobs who happen across the Firefly family. This movie is pretty unique and while Zombie has gotten some mixed reviews about his films, this one is widely considered a classic.

6. Ginger Snaps (2000)

Canadian werewolves don't mess around
Canadian werewolves don't mess around

One of the better werewolf movies out there, it parodies "coming of age" and becoming a werewolf pretty cleverly. Spanning over the month of October and culminating with Halloween make this a solid entry on the list, plus werewolves!

7. The Houses October Built (2014)

You'll never go to a haunted house again...
You'll never go to a haunted house again...

This isn't quite out yet, but will be in time for Halloween. Having seen it already, I have to say it's pretty messed up. Following a group of friends who venture into the underbelly of the haunted attraction industry. This is a must view for this time of year, one hundred percent. Keep an eye out for my upcoming review of the film!

8. Trick or Treat (1986)

They don't make 'em like this anymore
They don't make 'em like this anymore

Death, returning from it, hidden evil messages in music, revenge, Halloween, Gene Simmons, and Ozzy Ozbourne. Need I even go on? Nope. That's right, I don't.

9. Satan's Little Helper (2004)

Best mask ever.
Best mask ever.

A very fun, heavily themed Halloween film crossing horror and black comedy. What happens when a kid befriends a serial killer dressed as Satan on Halloween and helps him with his work unknowingly? Well, let's say that it gets pretty crazy and leave it at that.

10. All Hallow's Eve (2013)

Everybody likes clowns right?....right??
Everybody likes clowns right?....right??

Another anthology film focusing on Halloween. It's no Trick 'r Treat, but has gotten fairly popular in the horror community. All I have to say about this movie is that it's just weird, really weird... like really, really weird. Definitely something you have to see for yourself!

Well now! That wraps up the list! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Remember that this list is mostly opinion so feel free to share yours in the comments below and tell us your favorite Halloween themed films.

And most of all...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
