"The Martial Arts Kid" is a serious coming-of-age story involving a troubled teen names Robbie - played by rising star Jansen Panettiere - that grows & matures after taking martial arts from his aunt & uncle, who are portrayed by martial arts legends Cynthia Rothrock & Don Wilson. It is set in Cocoa Beach, Florida and it has a great cast & crew with REAL martial artists & great action, too.
Even with all that going for it, there are those who feel Kathryn Newton definitely makes her mark and steals the show - or at least a few scenes.
"(Kathryn is) such a beautiful girl with such a beautiful soul", says "The Martial Arts Kid" co-producer Ryan Westheimer. "(She always) had a smile on her face,"
Up to now, Newton has been best known for her roles in the TV series "Gary Unmarried" and the films "Paranormal Activity 4" and "Bad Teacher".
However, that could change. According to many close to the production, Newton immersed herself in the role of Rina, the love interest of the titular "Kid" in the film.
"She was all about the film", says Westheimer. "(She was) all about the character and all about the relationship between her character and Jansen's character. Because of the both of them, their chemistry onscreen was fantastic."
"She...did very, very well", Westheimer concluded. "(She) has star quality".
"The Martial Arts Kid" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
