While he has signed to appear in both Age of Ultron and Avengers 3, Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t convinced to return to the Iron Man franchise. But he said that he will make an epic comeback if a certain director is announced. And that director needs to be Mel Gibson:

Correct. Why not? That movie would be bananas."

It isn’t the first time when RDJ tried to bring old pal Mel into the Marvel universe – but no matter how much pull he has with the studio, he didn’t manage to do so. For now, the actor is involved with a project produced by Team Downey, a project called Yucatan:

We’re writing this thing right now, Yucatan…and I’m like, God, if I could find a part for Mel. But he also likes to do his own thing and sometimes he goes out of his way to do the unexpected. Sometimes with these things, it becomes a matter of time, and is seems like it’s getting a little bit old to hold a grudge.”
