Halo: The Master Chief Collection has some surprises in store for Halo 5!

Halo: The Master Chief collection is sure to give the already bustling Halo community something new to rave about! Though it seems that the collection will not only feature re-released Halo classics, but new content that 343 Industries are using to tie the series together for the release of Halo 5: Guardians in 2015.

Remastered Halo 2, while remaining totally unchanged from its original regarding story, will actually feature an implemented feature by 343 Industries to tie the game with Halo 5. Reportedly, 343 will be doing something similar to how they released 2011's Halo: Anniversary, in which computer terminals found in-world unlocked comic panels that set up the story for 2012's Halo 4.

The terminals in [Halo](movie:559680) 2 will allegedly inform us on The Arbiter, giving us information into his past in which we'll learn more about him. The wonderful 343 Industries have also developed bookend cinematics for the titles in the Halo series, in order to further connect them with Halo 5 and thus by proxy with the Halo: Nightfall live-action digital series.

Master Chief is not the only playable character in Halo 5!

Agent Locke, the new playable character!
Agent Locke, the new playable character!

Michael Colter has revealed that the character he provides the voice acting for, Agent Locke, will be a playable character in Halo 5: Guardians.

Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you're basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character. I'll have some cool weaponry, and some cool abilities, because by that time I'll be a Spartan IV. - Michael Colter

Spartan-IVs are the latest wave of supersoldiers being trained by the UNSC. Unlike previous generations of Spartans, the Spartan IVs are made up of adult volunteers rather than coerced children. This particular character of Agent Locke will be revealed in the Halo: Nightfall series, where his abilities will assumedly be tested so that he can rise to the challenge of standing alongside Master Chief.

Therefore, can we assume that the game will feature co-op? I don't think so due to the nature of Locke's character, he seems to be hunting Master Chief down:

What's not known is whether I'm a friend or foe. The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because, what's the outcome? Is he dead or alive? Because that's usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won't know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he's at mentally. But I'm sure that'll be a plot twist in Halo 5. - Michael Colter
Will Halo 5 feature Master Chief's last stand?

Are they preparing us for the loss of John-117 in Halo 5?

With 343 Industries already showing us how unafraid they are in terms of killing off beloved characters, could they aim right for the heart and take down Master Chief? With the dual image on the front, many fans have speculated as to whether Agent Locke is being prepped to fill the shoes of John-117.

Personally, I can see it happening. I imagine that Halo 5 will show us a decrepit John, mourning the loss of his companion and friend Cortana. Perhaps this will be his final stand as he joins Cortana in death and the gaming world of Halo will continue with a new character. Halo 5: Guardians will be released late 2015 for Xbox One.

Could Halo 5 feature Master Chief's Demise?
