With the recent news regarding Fox's Marvel franchise I've been wondering whats next for the world of mutants. Simon Kinberg (Writer/Producers) said in a recent interview that the new Apocalypse movie will complete the trilogy that First Class started. Meaning that could be the last X-Men movie for now. Thing is I believe Fox wanted to build a cinematic universe like Marvel Studios, but how does that work when the main team up movie has reached its climax. There is plenty of other material they have but what comes next is the question Im asking myself.
Fantastic Four Reboot: In X-Men Universe?
Firstly we have the Fantastic Four reboot which due to the timeline the X-Men have would be difficult to incorporate. I know the future has been re-written on the X-Men timeline after DOFP but still how do you establish this new team of superhero's in an already established timeline. Seeing that [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) was suppose to be a farewell movie to the FUTURE cast how would you do something like an Fantastic Four/X-Men movie when the cast of those X-Men movies aren't returning. The other option is that they have the Fantastic Four join the PAST X-Men cast but then that could mess with the timeline again. I heard that Kinberg said that the Fantastic Four and the X-Men could still exist in the same Universe but I doubt we will be seeing a crossover movie. And if Im gonna be honest, I hope they don't connect the franchise as this new Fantastic Four reboot seems to be quite frightening. Every time I hear news regarding the movie its just something to make fans even madder. It seems like their completely re-imagining the Fantastic Four and Im really not liking the direction its going.
I don't know how Fox are gonna work around [The Fantastic Four](movie:34667) but I'm pretty sure we got some standalone movies to exist in the same universe to come. There was talk of a Mystique movie which to be honest Im against as I think the character has had way to much attention in the X-Men movies. She's also turning to much into a hero lately which isn't really Mystique. Then there's also the fact that Jennifer Lawrence is Mystique, which seems to be the only reason why they would give her a movie. I got nothing against the actress but with her fame lately there's no reason why Fox wouldn't consider her getting a standalone Mystique movie. Even if we don't want it.
Deadpool: Cable Team-Up On The Cards?
Next we move onto Deadpool which was recently confirmed to be part of expanding universe. If the [Deadpool](movie:38663) movie is to be a success which Im positive it will be I can definitely see sequels to that on the way. And Deadpool could lead to more characters like Cable. We could see a Deadpool/Cable team up movie or maybe an X-Force movie. Depending on how successful the movie is Deadpool could play a big part in the future of the Mutant universe.
The other standalone which has gone a bit quiet lately is the Gambit movie. Now all we know is that Channing Tatum is taking over the role. Apart from that we've heard nothing. Im not really too sure on Tatum taking on the role but this could be an interesting movie to look forward too (If it happens).
Now of course the one problem we have is after all the standalone movies people are gonna want to see some team-up movies. Marvel Studios have split their movies up into phases and each phase ends with a grand finale Avengers movie. Now if Fox want to build a cinematic universe then wouldn't they do some team-up movies as well. One possibility is that we will see an X-Force movie with Deadpool being a lead character. There's also the possibility that now the future is re-written we could see a new X-Men team form. Lets say after Apocalypse, Professor X could always let Cyclops take over the X-Men team. We would see some familiar faces return but then we could also see some new characters join the team. This could be a new X-Men trilogy that takes place after Apocalypse (although characters like Scott and Jean would still be young), or it could be the new re-written future trilogy. Then of course the original trilogy of X-Men movies would be completely wiped from existence.
I don't know how Fox plan on building towards the future of their shared universe but Im sure we'll be hearing more especially after the [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) movie. Not to forget we also have another Wolverine standalone movie.
