In what sounds like some sort of scene from the SAW movie franchise, Logan Lerman, LaBeoufs' co-star, has revealed that during filming Shia LaBeouf slashed his own face with a knife and had a tooth removed in a bid to make his Fury character more realistic. Lerman told British GQ;
"They were putting cuts on Shia and I said, 'Yeah, yeah, it looks good', and Shia was like 'No, it doesn't look real'.
The actor then proceeded to take matters into his own hands;
He walks out into the hallway and says, 'Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out…' and he takes out a knife and cuts his face... "For the whole movie he kept opening these cuts on his face. That's all real."
His dedication to the role didn't stop there, as Lerman revealed that the actor also had one of his front teeth removed, yanked out by a dentist for his WW2 character 'Boyd 'Bible' Swan'.
Reports had suggested that LaBeouf opted not to shower for the entirety of the filming and learned to operate the tank expertly, something that Lerman agrees with;
"He really spent every moment on set. He's the guy operating the turret in every shot, even when you don’t need to be in there as an actor. You know, you can have somebody else inside. But he was there, for every shot."
His dedication did not go amiss with leading man Brad Pitt either, as earlier this year he praised LaBeouf in an interview with GQ;
“He’s full on commitment, man. He’s living it like no one else, let me tell you. I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of great actors. He’s one of the best I’ve seen.”
Directed by David Ayer and starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and Logan Lerman, Fury tells the tale of a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Pitt) commanding a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Out-numbered, out-gunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
