The iconic Simpsons intro is celebrated in this amazing video, which compiles all 554 couch gags on the show's 25 year run and plays them at the same time.

Needless to say, it's pretty mesmerizing.

What's really interesting is the variety in length and subject of the famous jokes, and the fact that the video exposes just how many gags were duplicated during the show's run. If you look closely, you'll see that many of the squares contain the same action.

That's not to detract from the talent of the show's writers, which kept the show feeling fresh through decades of less intelligent sitcoms and some pretty dire American TV.

The Simpsons was groundbreaking in many ways, and the couch gags exemplify its unique genre-bending, expectation-blasting attitude. I think my favorite might be the Etch-a-Sketch gag, which you can see in the middle right of the screen around the 0.03 mark.
