All the rumors surrounding Half-Life 3!
Okay, over the many years of hiatus from the Half-Life series there have been such an abhorrent concoction of rumors that have caught so many of us too many times. I'm not here to spout any new ones, I just desperately needed a place to vent and discuss some of the things that have been running around in our collective consciousness.
The rumors of the Ice World are a particular focus for many fans, perhaps due to the Half-Life 3 mod that was created entitled 'ICE' and also this fan-made trailer that actually is quite well done.
But neither of these point us in any firm direction for truths about the Half-Life universe and its return. One particular French gaming site even speculated that the game was going to feature an inclusion of heavy RPG elements (I even saw some idiot speculate it would be turn-based....TURN-BASED!). But the majority of these seem to have no connection to facts and most aren't even responded to by Valve.
Half-Life 3 is probably the most talked about FPS of the last 3 years, hell maybe even longer than that! Fans are beyond desperate to receive even the slightest word about the series. At this stage I'm thinking of giving up all hope and forgetting about ever seeing Gordon or Alyx, especially Alyx, ever again. But then you see the comments made by this guy: Minh "Gooseman" Le.
Could Minh Le have revealed the existence of Half-Life 3?
I don't think I can talk about that, to be honest, but I think it's kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on. And so if I were to say that yeah, I've seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn't be big news to be honest.
But yeah, I mean like I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3.
Public knowledge?! No it isn't!! They haven't given us anything in years, they've left us in the dark to bang our heads against the wall as desperate idiots tease us with ridiculously fake announcements! But for someone so close to Valve to think that Half-Life 3 is that sure a thing, then surely that's the most concrete information we've received. Right?
I mean the only way that I could see a comment like that being said is that the game is so talked about to him and he's seen so much concept art that he's convinced that we all know this game exists. Well guess what Lin, we don't! But seeing as he thought he saw something that looked like the Half-Life universe, perhaps that means that Valve are changing things up for Gordon Freeman.

Valve and their desire for Multiplayer!
When we started out we were a single-player video game company that could have been really successful just doing Half-Life sequel after Half-Life sequel, but we collectively said let's try to make multi-player games even though there's never been a commercial successful multi-player game [...]
We've essentially crowd-sourced supervision of a lot of these decisions to our customers and it works way better than almost any other system we could design. They're rabid, they're passionate, and there are a lot of them. -Newell
Seeing as they love the community of gamers that surround a multiplayer based game, perhaps this could influence them to make Half-Life 3 a part of that world. Now we know they've had their hands on multiplayers for a long time from Team Fortress up to the likes of Left 4 Dead and DoTa 2.
So I could certainly see them returning to their FPS Half-Life roots, but transmuting it into the realm of multiplayer. Thus, their avid community of Half-Life fans would be transferred into a multiplayer universe in which we could continue to be 'rabid', 'passionate' and astronomical in size!
What do you guys think about Half-Life 3's rumors?
