In the least surprising but most awesome news of the day, AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead, by far the most popular - and in my humble opinion, greatest - show on TV, has been renewed for a SIXTH Season.
"But Season 5 hasn't even started yet!" I hear a handful of you cry. Well, clearly the bigwigs at AMC have seen how great the new season is going to be and decided to greenlight a new one as quickly as possible.
And there's also the small matter of the smash-hit zompocalypse drama being the highest-rated show in cable history, and the number one show in the much-coveted 18-49 demographic, with Season 4 averaging a massive 18.4 million total viewers per episode.
I doubt it was a difficult decision to come to.
Andrew Lincoln was overjoyed when he heard the news of TWD's renewal:
As was AMC President Charlie Collier:
We could not be more excited for Oct. 12 as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who bring this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.
I know it's probably not a shock that Season 6 has already been confirmed but it's great to know that the network has got a long-term plan for TWD. And if you've read the comic book source material, you'll know that there are loads of explosive, brutal, and mind-blowing plotlines coming up.
And also lots more of this...
