OK, everyone. Get ready. It's seriously, stupidly, spectacularly awesome news time.
Y'know Independence Day 2 - the upcoming sequel to the movie that totally blew up the White House back in 1996?
Well, you've probably heard that Will Smith has absolutely no intention of returning for the second movie in what is clearly angling to be a franchise.
But don't despair - that doesn't mean Independence Day 2 can't still be awesome - for one main, and pretty darned fundamental, reason:
Jeff Goldblum is coming back.
Speaking to Time, the actor revealed that:
"I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon...they’re still talking about it and I’ve heard recent rumblings here and there about it, and “Oh, there’s a scripting coming in” — maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it’s brewing."
All of which means that, yes, we might not quite get to see this again...
...we will, from the sounds of it, get to see Goldblum reprise his legendary role as David Levinson. Which is lucky, really, since who else can take down a massive alien craft with just a Mac?
Now all they need to do? Get Bill Pullman on board - if only to reassure us that:
Our [Independence Day 2](movie:447723), Bill. C'mon, dude, we sent you the script a week ago...
