If you've seen the full-length trailer for The Walking Dead Season 5, you could be forgiven for thinking that Gareth, the leader of the Termites, would be the big bad for the new season.
However, in a recent interview, TWD creator Robert Kirkman admitted Gareth is not the only threat to Rick and the gang and, in fact, he might not even be the biggest threat this season.
I would say without a doubt that Gareth is far from the only threat, quite possibly far from the biggest threat, and there’s quite a bit on the horizon. I would just say more than any other season, we hit the ground running, and there’s quite a bit going on with all of these characters.
I said it before in my trailer breakdown and I'll say it again here: I think Gareth won't survive the first episode and the trailer was cleverly edited to make it look like he has a big role to play in this season.
I'm not a betting man, but if I was I'd wager my Limited Edition Rick Grimes Stick on Man-Beard that the premiere episode sees Gareth get brutally dispatched, the group escape Terminus and Rick scrawls "No Sanctuary" on one of the signs pointing people in that direction.
So, if Gareth is not the main threat, who or what is?
Well the first and most obvious answer is the hordes of undead that roam the earth. Season 4 saw the threat of death by walker ramped up and I expect that to continue in Season 5.
We also saw in the trailer that Beth is being held at a hospital by what looked like a sort of New World Order. I wouldn't be surprised if the group come into contact with them at some point. And when they do, it could get messy.
However, there is one more threat that might bring pain to Rick and the group. A man, sadistic of temperament and potty of mouth. A man known as Negan. I'm not sure if he'll make an appearance as early as Season 5, but there's no doubting that when he - and his trusty baseball bat Lucille - finally show up, skulls are sure to be cracked and spirits broken.
Who do you think will be the biggest threat in Season 5?
