We now have only 8 episodes left of [Sons of Anarchy](series:201186)! What did you all think of this week's episode? Sorry guys, didn't have a chance to review last weeks episode "Poor Little Lambs" but we'll talk about the aftermath of that episode leading into this one. For all those who haven't been reading my other reviews beware of spoilers if you haven't watched Sons of Anarchy up to the latest episode. Let's not waste any time and jump into this week's goods and bads!
So, I've complained in the past about how Juice's story has been dragged on for way too long. What happened this week? Juice snapped and killed a motel worker who happened to be Asian because he's afraid the Chinese is after him. Not only has Gemma been losing it and talking to "Tara" but now Juice has let his paranoia get out of control. I'm fine with one of them losing their marbles but do both Juice AND Gemma have to go crazy? I don't know. Gemma decides to finally tie up her only loose end that knows the absolute truth about Tara's murder but Juice catches her and drives them off the road. What's going to happen next? Probably nothing. Juice took Unser hostage in the season opener and let him go. He'll probably do the same for Gemma. You know he's not going to because we need to have that scene eventually when Jax discovers the truth about Gemma murdering Tara.
I'm afraid Sons of Anarchy has fooled me too many times to actually think when Juice had Gemma at gun point something might happen. Sure, back in season 1 or 2 I might've been super nervous for Gemma. I just don't buy it anymore. Sons drags out killing their main cast stars. That's why Clay wasn't killed until season 6 when he should've been in season 4 finale. There's no way in episode 5 or 6 they will off Gemma. She's the second main character after Jax. That will be either episode 11 or probably the finale. Meanwhile, Sons has NO issues killing random no name characters just because of accidents or miscommunications. Examples this season are that priest foursome in the season opener or the Asian hotel clerk. How about last week with the 15 no name hookers and oh... Colette. She was somewhat important last season for about 5 episodes... See what I mean guys?
The final bad thing I'd like to complain about is the trend that the entire final season has been doing and that's you really won't see a lot of action until the final 10 minutes or so. Lots of talking and talking and meetings and deals and so forth. I guess I'm getting sick of them not switching things up. Why can't there be something shocking to start the episode or in the middle? Why does it always have to save until the end? Old episodes of Sons of Anarchy would have twists and action throughout the episode. Nowadays they drag it out so that you will watch next week. I won't sit here and trash the episode forever because there were some good moments.
One of the smaller storylines they've been doing the past couple episodes is this relationship between Chibs and the sheriff Jarry. I'm mainly excited about this because I feel like Chibs hasn't had many B stories for himself to sink into since the stuff with Juice in season 4. The interesting component of this dynamic is whether or not Chibs or Jarry are simply growing close with one another just to use the other. Is there any hidden motivations or do these two actually care for one another? With all the war, violence and death in Charming it's nice to know there's still a little good happening.
I did enjoy the twist that Nero actually helped Jax with Lin but why does Nero just suddenly believe Jax when he says Gemma saw a guy going into Tara's house? I really like when Nero and Jax are on the same team. One of my favorite moments is when Jax asks whose side Nero will take between the Chinese and the club. Nero just says "I'm tired". I was waiting for him to throw out a Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon and just say "I'm too old for this sh*t". Besides Chucky being the most adorable babysitter ever.
I'm a little iffy about this whole Abel being violent storyline. It's probably because Abel and Thomas have always just been background characters. Yes, we care for them because they are innocent children in this dark world but why are we waiting until the final season to see what Abel is going to grow up to be? Seems too late to try to tell that story unless we are going to see some sort of huge time jump to when he's a bit older? I don't know. Abel's scene holding the hammer protecting Thomas went from kinda cute to pretty dark in just seconds. We'll see where that goes. In other news I swear to God Chucky and Unser are going to be the only characters to make it alive in the end of all this chaos!
I feel like we are just getting SOOOO close to the crazy stuff that usually happens every season. Sons of Anarchy has kind of a pattern of having episode 6 or 7 be the tipping point but will people lose interest before it's too late? If next episode ends with not a huge moment that will drive us to watch for the rest of the season I'll really be upset. However, this episode was nothing special. It had just as many goods as bads. I'll have to give this a grade right in the middle of the grading system.
Sons of Anarchy Season 7 Episode 5 'Some Strange Eruption' = C
So what did you guys think? Am I being to harsh on the show that used to be my favorite drama on television? Or is it really this slow? Please leave a comment below so we can discuss this!
