Hugh Jackman has played fan-favorite character Wolverine, since the year 2000 and has made an appearance in every X-Men movie to date, and (even though there are some fans out there who aren't so glad about it) has been the main character of every X-Men movie, besides Firsts Class, but Jackman cant play Wolverine forever, mainly because Wolverine is a character who ages very slowly and there'll be a point where Jackman will be too old to play Wolverine, and even Jackman has said that recasting Wolverine is inevitable.
So with the rumors out there that Jackman is only on board for two more X-Men movies, [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) and another Wolverine-centric movie (Jackman has expressed interest in doing Old Man Logan) is it time for the X-Men movies to start planting the ideas for a new character to take the spotlight? and if so, who should it be?
James McAvoy's Charles Xavier
Perhaps the current leader of the X-Men, could take the spotlight after Wolverine, but then is Xavier and interesting enough character to be at the spotlight? even in the comics before his death Xavier was rarely at the spotlight, and James McAvoy's box office track record lacking any real hits outside the X-Men movies, could Fox take a chance and put the focus of their franchise on McAvoy?
Michael Fassbender's Magneto
Potentially a better option than Xavier, since Magneto being a better fan-received character, to the point that Fox originally intended to do X-Men Origins: Magneto that eventually became X-Men: First Class; and Fassbender having a better box office record than McAvoy and even having a better response with critics. But Fassbender's Magneto is far from being at a point where he'll help the X-Men and be a good guy, so chances are he'll stay as temporary ally to the X-Men with his own agenda or a secondary villain.
Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique
Perhaps the easier option for Fox, because of the fact that Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much Hollywood's it-girl at the moment, having a gigantic fan base (mostly due to Hunger Games) and being a critic's darling (her nomination for American Hustle, a role that for many people wasn't strong enough to deserve a nomination), and the fact that since X-Men First Class her role was expanded to a role stronger than Rebecca Romjin's, but Jennifer Lawrence's fame aside, is Mystique an interesting enough character to be the focus of the X-Men movies?
Evan Peter's Quicksilver
American Horror Story has played a giant role on Evan Peter's exposure and potential star maker (being one of the main characters for almost every AHS season and delivering great performances in most of them... I didn't like FrankenKyle in Coven) and despite the horrible outfit, a lot of fans loved him in DoFP with many describing him as a scene stealer, it has been confirmed Peter's Quicksilver will return for Apocalypse with rumors that Scarlet Witch will be joining him, could the Maximoff twins be the new stars of the X-Men movies? Or maybe just Quicksilver will be the new face of the X-Men movies?
Channing Tatum's Gambit
Had this announcement been made a few years back, perhaps everyone's idea would've been that his role would be nothing more than a background role, similar to Daniel Cudmore's Colossus, but since his career changing 2012, Tatum is in his way to becoming a house-hold name, so it is safe to assume that Tatum's role as Gambit will be a pretty big one, so perhaps it isn't that crazy of an idea that Fox will test him on Apocalypse to see if he can be the new face of X-Men, besides, I highly doubt he'll be worst than the poorly written and flatly acted Taylor Kitsch's Gambit.
Jean, Cyclops and Storm 2.0
It has been confirmed that X-Men: Apocalypse will feature younger versions of Jean Grey, Scott Summers and Ororo Munroe, and while their older played secondary characters to Jackman's Wolverine, could this new faces mean expanded roles for any member of the trio? Could this mean a better developed Scott who'll take the leader role he had for quite some time in the comics and the animated series? Or perhaps take a page from Marvel NOW! and All-New X-Men and throw Jean Grey in the leader role she has proven she can fulfill? Or perhaps a younger Storm means that we'll see the badass Storm that has been often times portrayed in the comics instead of Berry's motherly Storm?
Who should become the new star for the X-Men movies?
Who would you want to see introduced or returning in Apocalypse?
Who would you cast as the young Jean, Scott, Ororo and Wanda?
Your comments will be appreciated :D
