Somewhere in the Marvel offices, you have to wonder if there's a portal to a realm of evil doppelgängers that have swapped places with Joe Quesada and Kevin Feige and the rest of the crew, like in that one episode of [South Park](series:200459). It's the only reason to explain why they've been toying with our emotions so much lately, short of envisioning Joe & Co. laughing maniacally while drunk on power and yelling, "Dance! Dance for me, puppets! DANCE!!" as he watches his Twitter feed.
Last week, we found out that Marvel was planning on relaunching one of its most infamous crossover events with a new Secret Wars reboot. And fans were all, "SHUT up, for real?!" Then we all started wondering if it was maybe not a Civil War storyline we'd see played out on the big screen of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Secret Wars. After all, we know Marvel generally tends not to relaunch a series unless they have potential plans to tie them in to their on-screen medium. It's their M.O. and has been for a while.
But -- PLOT TWIST!
Marvel just sent out THIS teaser, and now I don't know what's real anymore and now it feels like my whole life is a lie.**
What. is even. HAPPENING right now, you guys?
Are we, as I've speculated at length, going to see Marvel Civil War played out on the big screen? Will we see the Secret Wars, instead? Is Marvel not going to focus on either of these storylines but go all-in on the Infinity Gauntlet arc?
I JUST DON'T KNOW ANYMORE.
At this point, my brain is a whirl trying to figure out what could possibly be happening, a laughable exercise that will probably only end up with me being wrong and turning to vodka to deal with the existential crisis this is sending me into.
What do you think is going on over at Marvel HQ? Are they giving us hints as to the direction in which the MCU us headed? Or will we never see this played out on the screen? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments, because at this point, your guess is as good as mine.
**If you think that's me being hyperbolic, you clearly have no idea how much time I spend thinking about this subject.
