Star Wars Battlefront 3 Footage Uncovered!
Before DICE decided they would step in and save us all by taking the reigns and leading Star Wars Battlefront 3 into the light, a little company known as Free Radical were the ones who were developing the next Battlefront back in the years 2006 through to 2008. If you want to know more about DICE's game you can check out these articles here and here!
Allegedly the game was 99% complete when the company was forced into administration following their poorly received Haze and the amount of work they were devoting to Battlefront. The company officially closed on 18th of December, 2008, a lovely Christmas present. However, on the 3rd of February, 2009, the company was purchased by the German studio Crytek.
They became Crytek UK and gave us the wonderful Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, though it seems that the company may once again close, with their latest game Homefront: The Revolution (a game which I don't think anyone asked for really but okay...) and all staff moving to Deep Silver Dambuster Studios to continue work on the game.
Sorry for that tangent I just found that company's history particularly interesting and thought I'd share it with those of you that hadn't heard it! But in the aftermath of all of this, what happened to Star Wars Battlefront 3? Well, LucasArts cancelled it, and the game was thought to never return until DICE insisted on working on it.
But if a game was this close to completion there must be some footage left behind right? RIGHT? Yes, right! The YouTube user 'BananaSwag' (love the name man!) uploaded two pre-alpha videos of Star Wars Battlefront 3. Obviously DICE have started afresh so none of this will be used in their game but it's fascinating to see a game at this stage and to try and see a finished product hidden away in its infrastructure.
Take a look and let me know what you think of them!

What would this game have been like?
Judging these two particular videos, what can we deduce from these games? I personally think that all the way back in 2008 I would have lost my mind with these games! They appeared to be everything we could want from the new Battlefront (yes there are MASSIVE frame rate drops but it's pre-alpha) with a huge selection of heroes, maps and planets to choose from.
I love the moment in the second video at about 1:57 where the AI Jango Fett has no idea that Padme is laying into him with a blaster. The game wasn't finished obviously but I'm sure they would have fixed up everything and actually made at least an enjoyable addition to the Star Wars Battlefront series! Also I'm fascinated by game design so it's a pleasure to see a game at such an early stage of development that developers were going to dive into to fix tons of issues.
Oh video games, I do love you.
