Up until now, the endgame for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always seemed like it was Thanos....that is until now.

Captain America 3 may not only move along the story of Steve Rogers but it will also bring back Tony Stark/Iron Man in a movie that might possibly ignite the Marvel Civil War! Note that none of this is confirmed but it has come from a reputable source (Variety).

In the comics, Civil War is a story that splits the superhero community in two. The government creates a superhero registration act which forces all superheroes to reveal their secret identities so that the public may feel safer. Iron Man sides with the government along with many more heroes whilst Captain America believes it is a heroes right to his secret identity and takes a stand against Iron Man.

The report that comes from Variety claims that Robert Downey Jr. is in final negotiations to join Captain America 3 and also claims that the story "Civil War" will be the foundation of the films story that could span over several films.

The comic features almost every big Marvel hero in all out war. From Captain America to the Fantastic Four to Spider-Man, everyone's there. This poses the issue that many fans have had with the possible Civil War, because Marvel don't own some of the major characters featured in the book (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men). To them I say don't worry, by the time Captain America 3 comes about, we could be introduced to many more heroes. There has been rumor that Ms Marvel and Black Panther may appear in Avengers 2, also Ant-Man is getting a solo film and so is Doctor Strange, so I believe we'll have plenty of characters for the "Civil War" story line. Not to mention that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones are making appearances on Netflix in the form of TV shows, the first being Daredevil which hits Netflix in 2015. Marvel have the ability to also put those characters in the story line, so there is definitely more than enough characters for the story.

One of the big characters in the story is Spider-Man and whilst its always looked near impossible that we'll ever see Spider-Man in a Marvel movie, recently there has been talk about Sony selling the rights back since Sony isn't doing great business as a company altogether.

The "Civil War" story also involves the tragic death of Captain America, and as we already know, Chris Evans has talked about leaving the character for a while so that he may pursue other things, so perhaps we could see the end of Captain America? Although I think that's unlikely its still a possibility.

This is how I think it may all go down:

I believe that the seed of "Civil War" will be planted in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. We have previously heard that at the end of Avengers 2, Captain America may assemble his "Secret Avengers" so perhaps events that take place in that film cause him to exit the core group. The 'superhero registration act' will take place in Captain America 3 because of events that take place in Avengers 2, perhaps the world blames The Avengers for the destruction caused by Ultron? Because after all, Tony has created him. Iron Man may feel guilty about Ultron and decide that its best if all heroes are registered with the government to make the world feel more secure. Of course Captain America may have some issues with taking orders from an organization after what was revealed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I don't think we're going to get the big bad Thanos on Earth until later, I think he'll be used in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 more prominently instead. Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 is set to come out in 2017 so that looks like Avengers 3 may be 2018, where the Avengers set aside their differences and team up again to fight Thanos (Hopefully the Guardians will be there too!)

Now remember, this is NOT confirmed, but the report did come from a reliable source in Variety and Marvel have neither confirmed nor denied. This is looking like it may in fact be true and if so, we have a lot to look forward to!
