Master Chief Defeats Agent Locke for Lead in Halo 5!
The internet was raging about the speculation that a character named Agent Jameson Locke, who featured originally in the Halo: Nightfall series, was filling John-117's position as the protagonist of Halo 5: Guardians. Answers given to IGN by the actor who plays the agent, Mike Colter, were taken out of context by other sites and the news spread like wild fire.
I can't blame the sites in some ways, as his statements could certainly be misinterpreted, particularly when he states that his character is going to play a 'primary' role in Halo 5. He just later went on to say that this was only in a potential antagonistic role. But he is also a playable character...look the whole thing got out of hand. But take a look at his statement here below!
I'm a playable character. Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you're basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character. I'll have some cool weaponry, and some cool abilities, because by that time I'll be a Spartan IV."
"What's not known, is whether I'm a friend or foe. The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because what's the outcome? Is he dead or alive?
Because that's usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won't know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he's at mentally. But I'm sure that'll be a plot twist in Halo 5.
In response to all of these wild allegations, 343's Franchise Development Director, Frank O'Connor stated that Agent Lock is a "primary character, Chief is the main character and hero." So don't worry, they weren't killing him off just yet (though I'm thinking that could happen in the conclusion of Halo 5, what about you guys?).

Halo 5 Release Date
Halo 5 is set to be released in the fourth quarter of 2015, with 343 running Beta tests from December through to January next year. The Xbox One exclusive is set to be released at a beautiful 60 frames per second with Master Chief looking better than ever. I may actually have to buy the Xbox One when this comes out...PS4 will do for now.
The premise for Halo 5: Guardians reads as "In the far reaches of space, Mendicant Bias, an ancient forerunner AI and the leader of the Guardians awakens from his slumber. Meanwhile, Agent Locke and The Arbiter were tasked to find John 117 while he's gone missing in the Ark."
A worthwhile wait. I'm sure 343 will succeed once again with [Halo](movie:559680) 5, Halo 4 is one of the few reasons I still clutch onto my Xbox 360.
Let me know how you guys feel about the return of Master Chief in the comments!
