Elizabeth Peña has died after a short bout of illness at just 55-years-old.

The actress, who is best known for playing Detective Tania Johnson in Rush Hour, had a career that spanned four decades.

Peña is also known for her guest role as Pilar in [Modern Family](series:201500) and for voicing Mirage in Disney's The Incredibles.

The actress had recently completed work on the first season of El Rey Network’s [Matador](series:1263469) in which she played the lead character’s mother. El Rey Network released the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague. She was a role model, a truly extraordinary performer and an inspiration in every sense of the word. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this difficult time. She ‎will be deeply missed

Sofia Vergara and Steve Levitan of Modern Family also left tributes to Elizabeth Elizabeth Peña on their social media accounts.

Peña is survived by her husband, two children, mother and sister.
