Famously tempestous star Christian Bale is set to play Apple CEO Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic about his meteoric rise to tech dominance.
Talk of the biopic has been circulating ever since 2011 when Jobs passed away from cancer. At one point, David Fincher was in talks to direct, and Leo DiCaprio was keen to play Jobs, before deciding he wanted a sabbatical from acting.
Step in Bale, who's apparently this close to signing on the movie, which will now be directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire).
The script is penned by Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network fame, who's confirmed that the movie will have just three long scenes, each taking place behind the scenes of three of Apple's famous product launches.
Bale is a perfect choice for many reasons, but here's three I think seal the deal:
1) He looks like Steve Jobs
This might sound like an obvious point, but it's difficult to portray someone as iconic as Steve Jobs if you can't convince the audience to suspend disbelief for a few hours. Bale's uncanny resemblance is too good an opportunity to pass up.
2) He's as driven as the character he's playing
Bale is known for his commitment to every role he plays, so much so that it was recently revealed his arse literally fell out of its sockets during his punishing weight loss routine for The Machinist. With that level of drive, he'd surely be able to portray Job's own ambition.
3) He's not afraid to take on big characters
This is the guy that stepped up to Batman, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, Dicky Eklund in The Fighter and Terminator's John Connor, to name a few. Steve Jobs? Easy peasy.
