Marvel's casting department is, you'd have to imagine, a pretty busy group of people. After all, there's not only an entire army of Marvel movies coming our way, all just as in need of being cast as the last, but there's what seems to be one of the most complicated casting sagas of recent years going on right underneath their noses.
Doctor Strange, it seems, is not an easy hero to cast.
Benedict Cumberbatch, Joaquin Phoenix, Keanu Reeves, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, and Oscar Isaac are all reportedly still under consideration for the role - with varying degrees of likelihood and fan-excitement attached to each.
A new contender has entered the ring, though, and it's...this guy:
Colin Farrell Might Be Playing Doctor Strange
And, y'know what? He actually kind of looks the part...
Which, combined with his ability to play cocky, swaggering yet strangely likable all at one time (a key component of Doctor Strange, especially in his origin story) means the links to his casting make more sense than they first seem.
Plus, of course, there's the fan factor.
Specifically, that you guys picked Farrell, over a horde of other quality contenders, in our Iron Man 4 fan-casting back in May - which promptly got picked up by a whole bunch of news sources as suggesting that the actor could genuinely be playing the hero.
Which, of course, is a whole lot less likely now that Robert Downey Jr. seems set to continue in the role for a good ol' while now.
Could that fan-casting have edged Farrell towards the role of Doctor Strange, though?
Now, it's a long shot, but it's just possible that Marvel, aware of the buzz surrounding Farrell, have taken that fan-favoring of Farrell as a prompt to consider him as a potential [Doctor Strange](movie:559685)?
Well, stranger things have happened...
