Director Kevin Smith's indie debut, Clerks, was a huge cult hit when it came out in 1994. And now, nearly a decade after Clerks II came out, Smith will be making another sequel to his breakthrough movie - the aptly-titled Clerks III.
Just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first movie, however, Smith has released some snippets from a previously unreleased journal and some behind the scenes photos from Clerks. Take a look at this lot and reminisce about the first time you saw Clerks...
Originally, Smith wanted Clerks III to be released for the 20th anniversary of the original Clerks in 2014. However, he was only able to get funding after returning to form with his impressive horror feature, Tusk.
Smith says it's down to Tusk that the third installment in the Clerks-iverse got the green light:
Tusk was the absolute bridge to Clerks III. Because of Tusk, I got my financing for 'Clerks III'. A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get Clerks III made for the 20th anniversary... I must have reeked of [desperation], because I couldn’t f–ing find money and s--t. But it was Tusk, with people going ‘Holy f–k, what else do you have?’ I was like, Clerks III! and they’re like. ‘Done!’ Everybody that’s like, ‘He failed, he failed!’ I’m like, ‘Thank you, I failed into Clerks III!’
Clerks III will start filming in June, 2015, and it'll certainly be fun to see what Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran look like since Clerks II came out in 2006.
Are you looking forward to the return of Clerks?
