The more details that emerge from Batman vs Superman, the more one is forced to wonder whether there will be anything left to know about this movie by the time of its release date, still over a year away, on March 25th, 2016.
The latest leak to come from the set of the movie concerns Jena Malone's apparent casting as Robin. This is one of the more significant spoilers to come out of the movie, which has been reflected in the movie maker's suing the extra who leaked it for $5 million dollars.
What is does tell us, however, is that Batman vs Superman is taking *another* step closer to the source material of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic book.
We have already seen a heavily armored batmobile (something Christopher Nolan's The Dark knight trilogy also lifted from the comic), we have seen Batman's heavy duty armor with which he is expected to take on the [Man of Steel](movie:15593), and we know Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne and Jeremy Irons' Aflred will be older versions of their characters than movie goers are accustomed to.
Now, however, with a female, red haired Robin joining the cast, there are a few more question one can ask about the similarities between Batman vs Superman and The Dark Knight Returns!
Bruce Wayne to Fake The Death of Batman?
This might be too close to home, especially as, like with batmobile, this was an element of the plot of The Dark Knight Returns that Chritsopher Nolan borrowed for [The Dark Knight Rises](movie:39011), but it is a crucial element of the story, and one that would make room for a new Batman, should DC decide to go that way.
It does seem unlikely, though, as Ben Affleck is signed on for multiple films, and will be expected to appear (presumably) in both [Justice League Part One](movie:401267) & Two. one interesting possibility, though, is that an older Bruce Wayne could lead to a Batman Beyond-based plot down the line. Would that be something you would like to see?
A crazed, feral gang in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, The Mutants rule over a run down and dysfunctional Gotham city. Batman vs Superman, however, might take Metropolis as it's focus more that Gotham, but it is a Metropolis still recovering front he effects of Superman's battle with General Zod.
Take a look at this crowd of protesters, angry with Superman's presence on Earth. Is this not the environment that could breed an disaffected ruthless gang like the mutants?
One of the key scenes involving the mutants in The Dark Knight Returns sees the Mutant Leader rip out the Mayor of Gotham's throat with his teeth, but this might be a step too for for Zack Snyder's Batman vs Superman.
Where does it leave the Justice League?
One fact that has been underreported given the fuss that the Robin leak threw up around Batman vs Superman was that pictures taken in New Mexico had revealed [Wonder Woman](movie:45787)'s home of Themyscira being built in the desert (filming had been planned for West Africa, but had to be moved because of the Ebola virus).
One key question about Zack Snyder's decision to include to many elements from The Dark Knight Returns is, how will he fit in the other members of the Justice League believed to be in the movie? Will someone take the a role similar to the one Green Arrow plays in Frank Miller's story?
What do you think? Have we seen the last element from The Dark Knight Returns included in [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870)? Will the Mutants appear? What are you theories for the other members of the Justice League?
