Reportedly, Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman v. Superman, the sequel to last year's Man of Steel, will feature a female Robin. That is, if recent ramblings prove to be true.
WILX-10 News station reporter Kirk Montgomery spoke to extras from the Detroit set who let slip that Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will be taking up the role of Carrie Kelly in the film.
“I’ve also learned that the character of Robin is now female,” he said alluding to the film’s top secret script.
Apparently, those who the secret slip were filming a scene at Michigan State University involving both Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).
Warner Bros. declined to comment on Malone's casting. She was recently spotted on the set sporting a new, red hairdo.
Casting rumors for Batman v. Superman have been in high demand since director Zack Snyder revealed the project at Comic-Con last year, and those who violate their non-disclosure agreement face a hefty $5-Million fine.
In any case, if Malone does indeed end up taking up the role of Carrie Kelly, it is further proof of the heavy influence Frank Miller's iconic The Dark Knight Returns has on the highly anticipated sequel.
Batman v. Superman, which will also star Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons and Ray Fisher, hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.
