Walt Disney expanded its presence in the U.K. this past Wednesday with the opening of a new Industrial Light & Magic.
The new Soho base for the visual effects arm of Lucasfilm opened Wednesday night, with a ceremony attended by company president Kathleen Kennedy.
According to Sue Lister, director of operations for ILM London, the facility is already hard at work on the effects for Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Star Wars: Episode VII.
Kennedy spoke at the event, where she recalled meeting U.K. government representatives in February of last year to discuss filming the latest Star Wars in London and revealed that Disney was now just "three weeks off" finishing the film and hinting that further titles in the iconic franchise would be shot in the city.
"This continues a long tradition of Star Wars movies being made in London. It goes back to 1976, and to know that we are now coming back and we will be making the movies once again based out of Pinewood, and now we're looking to put together this studio, it's rather remarkable that this has all come together in less than two years," she said.
It's clear that business is booming at the newly launched ILM London branch. We can't believe only three weeks remain before the next installment in the Star Wars franchise reaches completion! It seems like only yesterday that word came of the Lucasfilm buyout by Disney and their plans to launch a new Star Wars trilogy.
It won't be long now, Star Wars fans!
Star Wars: Episode VII stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and will land in theaters come December 2015.
