Are they TRYING to kill us?! In this latest 'Mockingjay Part 1' TV Spot we get a brief but closer look into where the war in Panem has lead Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.
WARNING: Hunger Games 3 Book SPOILERS
This new 'Mockingjay' TV spotlight might actually be better than the full length trailer, just sayin'. We are a month away from the release and, in true Lionsgate fashion, they give us a freaking heart attack and drain us of our fangirl (and fanboy) tear reserves! We get our closest look at our beloved Katniss, Peeta, and Gale, and the world they are forced to live in. What happened to the boy with the bread? Why has our girl on fire lost her spark? When did Gale become so hateful inside? Below we will take a closer look into what this new TV spot has revealed and the world we should expect to see in Mockingjay Part 1, and it may be shocking. Better to hear this all now, than realize it in the middle of a packed theater giving you dirty looks for your ugly sobbing sounds.
Say your goodbyes to the boy with the bread
When we last saw Peeta, he shared a kiss with Katniss followed by her haunting words of farewell "See you at midnight." They never saw eachother at midnight, and Peeta's bright eyes have been seized by bruises and blood. Our boy with the bread is no more, the Capitol left him for dead and awakened a very different man. The boy who once would have died for Katniss now wants her dead. Katniss won't give up though, as she tells us while embracing Prim, "When you love somebody, you don't leave them behind." We won't Katniss, we won't.
Katniss is all smoke and mirrors
Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, doesn't shine very bright nowadays. The same girl who shot one arrow to bring down an entire arena, who stared President Snow in the face, who saved her sister from imminent death, now hides in a corner, only coming out when forced. District 13 parlays her into being a face for a rebellion she never was sure she wanted, she is broken. The empty space behind her eyes used to belong to Peeta, and the rock beneath her feet is now quicksand. She will be District 13's face, but her heart is in the dungeons of the Capitol with Peeta. The only glimpse we get of the Katniss we know is in her realization that Peeta is alive. What she doesn't know is that he's only half alive.
Gale Hawthorn, Capitol Citizen
They have all changed, no one is the same. War does that to people, but Gale has gone down a different path, his own path. When he says we all have a choice, he fails to realize the one he has made. He doesn't know the games or the capitol like Peeta and Katniss. He only knows the food his family has never eaten, and the hours he's worked in the mines. His soul is hardened by anger, compassion is absent, and there is no room in his heart for Katnip anymore, or for anyone at all. He sees Katniss and Peeta as tools for the rebellion, when he himself has become a tool of the capitol.
All in all, I think we are in for more than we can handle in Mockingjay, I am not sure we are ready.
